I will never go back to this office, Very unprofessional eye doctors, they use UCLA name to promote their practice but they practice sucks.
Yeah appointment at 1:00 and we haven't even finished at 4:00 p.m. so we left.
Very rude stuff especially front desk. I was asking why should we wait 4 hours to treat the doctor they say usually text 3 to 4 hours. Then I told them like why nobody told us this and she was saying oh I'm telling you for next time so be prepared.
I have not seen in my lifetime in the doctor office to wait 4 hours, to see the doctors. That shows how greedy they are they overbook patients so they going to make more money they don't care about patients they care what their pockets.
Shame on you you call yourself professional.
I've been seeing MD's at Doheney for about 2 years. I think Doheney deserves a higher rating than it has on Google.
Before that, I was a patient at the CA Eye Specialists in Pasadena for over 4 yrs. Compared to that place, Doheney is excellent.
I've seen four MD's at Doheney and had many appointments. Only once did I have to wait too long. At Eye Specialists, two hour waits were common, and I waited as long as 5 or 6 hours a couple times--with appointment!! I grew to hate that place and their dismissive attitude to patients.
The MDs at Doheney have all been excellent to very good. I've seen Dr Hou, Dr Chen, Dr Quin, and Dr Heilweil for all my various eye problems. I have no complaints about any of them. They're all very professional.
Nearly all the office, tech and nursing staff have been MUCH better than the CA Eye Specialist staff.
I've probably seen about 20-25 differerent nurses. I've only had problems with two nurses: One nurse annoyed and upset me both times I saw her by how she communicated to me.
The other nurse was not wearing a mask (usual malpractice now) and coughed all over me without covering up.
Some of us have loved ones that are at risk. This "mask if you feel like it" policy is completely reckless. All to prevent a slight inconvenience for staff. And it always makes me wonder if staff are washing their hands regularly.
Other than that, everyone at Doheney does excellent work compared to other healthcare facilities. The nurses have otherwise been excellent to very good.
Adding or changing appointments times has been hassle-free. They have a great online system.
The parking situation isn't great but I have my ride drop me off and pick me up outside the gate to avoid the moody gate and the cost. I know that's not an option for some.
Every health care facility I've had anything to do with has flaws. That's US health care. Doheny is not perfect. But I'd recommend them without reservations (4.5 stars = A-)
I went to see a cornea specialist. I had a cataract surgery and ended up with no vision on said right eye. Dr. Hugo Hsu saw me and did surgery, after 2 days I got my vision back. I am very grateful to the expert Specialist and gave me my life back. Resumecd my driving and everything after 2 days
I came to my appointment on time and was told there will be a 2-3 hour wait. My daughter is 4 years old and she was expected to wait in the front lobby for 3 hours or risk else losing her place on line. The office manager has "this is just how it is" attitude, as if overbooking is not a choice
I'm respectfully asking Doheny Eye Center to please offer validated 1-2 hour parking for their patients to discourage them from using the few street spots available to residents in the very community that they run business. It would make a huge difference for the people who live in this neighborhood as it has severely impacted us.
I'm not a patient at Doheny Eye Center--I've lived in the neighborhood directly connected to it for a few years now. Our apartment complex only has preferential street parking, no designated spots...which wasn't an issue until Doheny installed a pay gate in their parking lot just a few months ago. Now, it's become a daily struggle to find parking near my home.
There's limited residential parking here, and I have a city-issued permit that only allows me to park long lengths on this specific street (which makes sense as it's a residential neighborhood near the rose bowl). Most days I come home to find all the spots taken by patients staying past the 2-hour time limit posted, which will soon be 1 hour thanks to some work with the city of Pasadena. I unfortunately have to call parking enforcement nearly every day which I hate doing, but it's the only way to enforce the signage. I hate having to leave a review like this, but it feels like the only way to grab their attention after being ignored by phone and email.
We've tried reaching out to Doheny multiple times to ask for help or a solution, but again, they've ignored our concerns. I'm hoping patients might see this message and encourage Doheny to offer some sort of parking validation that is mutually beneficial to the neighborhood and their patients. It would alleviate so much stress. Thank you.
I've heard of offices double or triple booking patients in a given hour. Here, though... They book 6 patients at one time, meaning each person in their waiting area has to wait two hours from check in to going into the provider's room. Multiple people in the waiting area confirmed to be seeing the same doctor, all checked in at the same time. I also need to mention that when I asked how much longer the wait would be, I got multiple glares from the back office staff and a piece of paper was waved at me, with one of the staff said rudely "you're next" and proceeded to turn her back to me.
If that wasn't enough to give a picture of how this office is, you have to pay to park based on how long you leave your car in their lot.
I wanted to note that Dr. Ip and his students were nothing but attentive and respectful of the situation. Dr. Ip apologized on behalf of the staff for the delays in the clinic even though it wasn't his fault. I appreciate the professionalism and can only say that it is so disappointing that such a leader has a team who does nothing but show disrespect for his patients.
I had a great experience in Dr Rootmans office. The front desk was kind, the Dr was knowledgeable. The worst part was that all the appointments are extremely quick and feel impersonal, which can be a bit nerve wracking when you're getting eye surgery; but honestly I can't complain with the results I had for a bilateral orbital decompression with Dr Rootman. I feel like myself and look like myself again after 10 years of thyroid eye disease and can't recommend Dr Rootman enough.
Review January 2025. Had a very good experience. Had an afternoon appointment. We were late and they were very accommodating. Was our first initial appointment for my daughter who has had ongoing eye problems since second grade. After seeing two Optometrists, an Ophthalmologist and now a UCLA Health Neuro-Ophthalmologist specialist Dr. Chan, we couldn't be more satisfied leaving from our appointment. We checked in at suite 240 to pay fees, double check insurance etc and finish any paperwork. The front desk woman was extremely nice and cordial. There were no patients waiting there. We then proceeded to suite 227 to check in into Dr. Chan's office. The two suites were very clean and had HEPA air purifiers. We had the suite to ourselves the entire time. No other patients were in wait just us two. Small, quiet office with a flat screen tv above in the wait area. There were 9 chairs with a small corner area for wheelchair or walker seating. It's best if only one or two persons come. It is a small office. There are restrooms in the hallway. Not what I'd expected according to some reviews. It was not chaos. There wasn't any overflow of patients. Not at all. Very professional office; from the receptionist to the nurse technician to the doctor. Everything went well. We were there for about one hour and 15 minutes; half the time was diagnostic eye tests and other half speaking with the doctor regarding our case. Since the appointment, there has been good communication between patient and doctor team. They have an app where you can see all your details and messages. The doctor called me first thing in the morning at 8 am with new orders and referrals to fulfill. So far so good with the response we've received. I would recommend.
