Valley Center Optometry

I had an eye exam here in March 2024. When I got new glasses made using their prescription, I had serious vision problems with my right eye. It was very blurry and I couldn't see properly. Looking at my prescription, I noticed my right eye had supposedly improved by 0.75 diopters (from -2.75 to -2.00), which seemed unusual since my contact prescription stayed the same at -2.75 for both eyes. I contacted the office with a simple question: could they review my file and confirm whether such a dramatic change was medically feasible? Office manager Shelley Joyce wouldn't even say "yes, this change makes sense" or "let me double-check this for you." Instead, she kept insisting I pay $40+ for a recheck appointment. I clarified multiple times that I understood their policies and wasn't asking for free services. I just wanted basic confirmation that their own prescription was accurate since I couldn't see clearly with the glasses. I ended up going to a different optometrist who confirmed they had made a mistake with my prescription. My vision didn't magically improve by 0.75 diopters, and I had to pay out of pocket to correct their error. I actually liked the doctor, so I'm really bummed this happened. I'm not sure if this was just Shelley or reflects how the practice operates, but it was really disappointing. I was simply looking for a basic "yep, that's totally possible" or "hmm, that number does look off." Any reasonable medical office should be able to address whether their own prescription makes sense when a patient is having vision problems.

I recently had my first appointment at Valley Center Optometry and was extremely satisfied with the level of care and attention I received. The staff is highly knowledgeable and friendly, and they take the time to explain everything to you in detail. The doctor was thorough in his examination and made sure to answer all of my questions. Mallory was amazing!! She was so patient and helpful as I had a hard time deciding which style to go with. I would highly recommend Valley Center Optometry!

My appointment was at 2pm I Arrived 10mins early The Receptionist was very friendly. I decided to leave the place at 2:27pm since the Dr. Never showed up. The Dr. did not respect my time.

I've been a patient of Dr. Joyce's for several years now. Both of his offices are exceptionally clean & welcoming. I mostly go to the Valley Center office. His staff is friendly and Margaret is the best! He takes excellent care of my eyes and is very forward thinking with regards to treatment options for people with REALLY bad eyes like me. He oversaw my many surgeries and goes the extra mile for his patients. Dr. Joyce is the only person I trust regarding my eye-care. He's really the best in the business. Aside from his excellent staff and quality care, he's a great guy who really cares about his patients. Definitely worth the drive! If you plan it right, there is a great spot for lunch next door too.

Dr. Joyce is incredible. Very friendly and knowledgeable. He graciously did a joint appointment with my husband and I a couple months ago and was able to figure out exactly what had been done wrong with our previous prescription. The receptionist, Margaret, is not as great. She refuses to wear a mask properly and lacked social distance when she approached me in the lobby. I was given an appointment to pick out glasses but waited over 40 minutes to be assisted. When my husband got contacts, Maragaret marked the wrong boxes for left and right eye, so he had issues for the first week and a half of wear. Small mistake, sure, but important to double check. Be prepared to spend when you come. The warranties make the cost worth it, but still a blow to the pocket. I just come for the fantastic doctor.

I recently took a trip into Valley Center Optometry for the first time in a while, I realized I've forgotten how much better the experience is then that of the Costco or Walmart vision centers. They really went the extra mile to make sure I was taken care of carefully and completely. For me it always seems like a big life decision when it comes to picking out a new pair of glasses, and sometimes I dread the process, but everyone there made it enjoyable. I got a lot of help from Noah that day who was helping me pick out a pair of glasses because most of the time a second opinion is really helpful. I got some prescription sunglasses on this trip as well and I'm extremely happy about them. Dr. Joyce was also amazing, he kept me informed on everything he was looking at in regards to my eye health, and how they are changing over time. He is a very considerate guy who actually makes you feel like you are important which is refreshing when considering other clinics that just want you in and out the door. Grateful for this place and I will be seeing them again in the future.

Dr Joyce is a Rock star when it comes to your eyes and their health. Takes time finding out about what goes on with your eyes. I had an issue that Dr Joyce Identified quickly he has monitored it and followed up making sure I was getting the proper correction. His staff is second to none when you leave their office you know you have had the best service.

I've been seeing Dr. Joyce for the past 16 years when he was in Lake Elsinore. I have a degenerative eye disease and he has allowed me to see clearer than any previous eye specialist has. He has been great with my whole family!
