New Tampa Eye Institute

Each year when we return for our annual eye exam with Dr. Smurr, we feel like were visiting old friends. Actually, that's kind of true since we have been patients for years and could not imagine going anywhere else. I get an education with each visit given Dr. Smurr's experience level and his and Carrie's inquisitive exam and explanation of the exam findings.

After waking and the blood vessel in my eye looking worse and giving me anxiety (being my Dad had macular degeneration ) I stopped in at the end of the day to see if it was an emergency or I can make an appointment!! They were so kind to have me fit me in last minute and have the doctor see me to put my mind at ease! I was very so very grateful and relieved after the Dr did a thorough exam. Totally got rid of my anxiety and they were so very kind and sweet!! THANK YOU AGAIN

The office absolutely exceeds our expectations every time we go. Dr Smurr is an excellent physician with great bedside manner. His office staff is wonderful as well.

I would give 0 stars if i could. Please do not waste your time and money and go somewhere else for your eye exam. Front desk lady with dark hair (think her name was Val or something like that) was very very rude. Told them i was unable to get my eyes dilated today and she lied to my face and said it's now required by "Florida law" to get dilated for first visits. Went to the back and asked the doctor if that is the case and he shut the door, told me it wasn't true and they say that just to get people to get dilated because it is "highly recommended" definitely not the same as being required by Florida's law! Don't go to a company that lies to your face just to get extra money out of you. Also didn't tell me that the reverse dilation drops take 40 minutes to kick in. Not worth the $20 in all honesty. Nobody greeted me when i walked in, every question i had was met with irritation and honestly it just wasn't a welcoming environment at all. There was a dog in my exam room while the doctor was seeing me which i found unprofessional but the doctor did ask if it was okay so i let it slide. Children behind the desk filing personal paperwork, also seems like a HIPPA violation but what do i know. Honestly just wasn't worth it, save your time and go somewhere that's gonna make you feel comfortable and welcome! Nobody deserves to be lied to and i wish there would be reprimands for someone as a front desk receptionist lying to patients like that.

New Tampa Eye Institute in Dade City came highly recommended. There are so many positives about this business! The staff are caring and patient, and went the extra mile to ensure my contacts fit and had the right strength. I was unsure about my new insurance, but Stephanie, Dr. Smurr's wife at the front desk, made the experience pleasant with her patience and expertise.

The two times I have visited this location, I've had exceptional service with an extremely friendly staff. I would have given 5 stars; however, if someone were looking for optical service, they would think that this particular location was closed (not opened for business) or abandoned. The average person driving by would have NO idea that this is a place of business ready to service the community. It is imperative that a neon open/closed sign be installed in the door or in the windows announcing to passersby that the facility is open!! With the tinted windows I had to literally stand in front of the "open" sign to even see it. Please add a neon sign that includes when you are opened/closed and your hours of operation. In doing so, you will attract many more new clients/business! Respectfully, ~Acie

Stopped in after purchasing glasses elsewhere that did not fit well. They were kind enough to do an adjustment at no charge and was unexpected and appreciated. They interacted with my 14 year old daughter during the wait and it was a great experience. We will be back

These guys were awesome! Broke my nose piece off my glasses. Showed up no appointment asked them to switch them out and they got me right in and switched them out no issue! Fantastic staff very helpful!
