have seen several doctors at St. Luke's Laser & Eye Institute and am currently being followed by Dr. Scherer for some potentially serious eye issues. Throughout my care, the experience has consistently been professional, thorough, and reassuring. Dr. Scherer is knowledgeable, takes the time to explain findings and next steps, and inspires confidence.
I have also consulted with Dr. Pit Gills regarding cataracts and have undergone laser surgery to relieve eye pressure. I truly believe I received world-class level care. The office is large with plentiful parking and is set on a beautiful campus with an ample waiting room. Appointments are easy to schedule at the location most convenient to you, and everything you need is in one place, including diagnostic testing and surgical facilities.
The staff is courteous and efficient, and the practice is very well run. Those of us in the Tampa Bay area are fortunate to have this outstanding resource to help preserve our precious vision.
Overall, my experience was good.
- I was referred to St. Luke's by my eye doctor.
- The initial evaluation appointment went smoothly and was efficient.
- Patients should plan to spend approximately 2-3 hours for the evaluation visit.
Surgery Day Experience:
Patients are moved through the surgical process in an assembly-line manner, which was acceptable, but worth noting.
The nursing staff was very kind, attentive, and supportive.
The individual who spent the most time speaking with me on the surgery day was the chaplain (female), which I appreciated.
Immediate Post-Surgery Follow-Up:
A follow-up appointment is conducted immediately after surgery in the same office.
After my first eye procedure:
Neither the nurse nor the physician introduced themselves.
Both appeared very annoyed when I asked questions.
After my second eye surgery:
The nurse was very helpful and supportive.
The physician (same dr. as the first post-op) conducting the follow-up seemed disengaged, did not offer a greeting or smile, and appeared (again) irritated when responding to questions.
Post-Operative Office Visits
During post-op appointments the following week:
Assistants did not introduce themselves. ((Seems to be a theme throughout this organization)
The physician spoke very quickly and appeared rushed, although he did take the time to answer all of my questions.
I have been seeing eye doctors for over 50 years and have never experienced an office where staff consistently did not introduce themselves.
At my final follow-up:
I was assisted by a junior staff member who appeared to be very new. Dialing in my prescription took a long time.
Patient Survey Feedback:
Patients are told they will receive an evaluation email after each visit. I received one survey after the initial evaluation but did not complete it due to time constraints, work, and cataract surgery shortly afterward.
I did not receive any additional survey emails following subsequent visits. The survey link is now inactive.
When I asked the front desk staff, I was told surveys are sent after each visit; however, I only received the first one - which again is not active after a few weeks.
I raised this concern during a follow-up visit, which is the reason I am providing this feedback through a Google review.
I took my father, 84 years old, to St. Luke's for a vision and eye exam and received his prescription for his new glasses. I took St. Luke's prescription to Eyeglass world to have his glasses made. Unfortunately, the prescription from St. Luke's was incorrect and my father was seeing tilted and felt very uncomfortable. We brought the glasses back to Eyeglass world and they offer to perform a new eye exam. It turned out that the original prescription from St. Luke was off by a lot. We have to have eyeglass world made a new set of glasses with the correct prescription. In a positive note, since you enter the building, the staff is very friendly and professional. We didn't have to wait long to be seen. I will not go back to St. Luke's for regular eye exam but definitely I will trust St. Luke's with any other eye conditions.
Sr. Phillpotts is rude. He made me feel horrible on a visit I had today. The first time I visited I asked him for laser and he told me that we Will be able to avoid laser with the injections that I need for treatments every 4 to 6 weeks. I did my fourth treatment today after he injected me basically treated me like crap and then told me that I'm going to need more injections and I will need laser, he also said my eyes were doing so much better on my second visit. This was my fourth and still he said I needed a laser and more injections today. My eyes are doing better so he made me believe that after four treatments we would check maybe get some more injections. He was in a bad mood because he was almost 5, and I was still there. I had an appointment so if I was there because they overbooked, which is what they're famous for. He was talking to me from the door. The whole time being rude and nasty made me feel like crap. I will never come to this doctor again there's nothing St. Luke's can do to make me go back to that monster of a doctor. I do have to say the ladies working there were great today and every time I went to St. Luke's and again in the beginning, he was very nice very convincing. I don't know why he felt entitled to talk to me the way he did, but he will never get my business again. He lost me as a patient.
I had Cataract surgery on both eyes. Dr. Pitt Gills was excellent very thorough testing and measurements . Dr. Gills explained my current condition and the best way to proceed . His staff was amazing, very nice, reassuring and very efficient . I had great results painless and fast recovery. I highly recommend St . Luke's for Cataract surgery and Dr. Gills.
St. Luke's as a whole deserves 5 stars! My audiologist, Dr. Perez, conducted my annual hearing check today, and I left hearing better than when I arrived. I give her 5 stars in all areas! She is knowledgeable, efficient, and courteous. I recommend Dr. Perez and St. Luke's highly.
Rhonda Kuhle the hearing aid specialist is absolutely amazing. It was an amazing life changing experience. After putting the hearing aids in and leaving the office, I broke down because I could hear my keys jingle, and the rustling of the grass as I walked. I had not heard that in a very long time. I recommend anyone that questions their ability to hear to see Rhonda Kuhle at the tarpon St Luke's.
One of the best eye doctors in the state of Florida, him and his team that created this facility is the best I've been too. Other doctors that i went to for my maculate, degeneration, injections we're more expensive and to not help my eye whatsoever. And this place has helped me the most, the very nice people here and very supportive.. I'm very affordable too compared to the other doctors. JESUS LOVES YOU
