I do not have an issue with the doctors at this office. My review is regarding staff.
About 2 years ago I went to this office for my regular eye exam and purchased some very expensive progressive lens as a second frame. They are nice, but I just couldn't see well enough to actually read with them. So completely useless as reading is not optional.
After numerous return visits to try to get them adjusted to be able to read, without tilting my head back or holding the frames up with my finger, I was never able to get them adjusted correctly.
When I came in on, what would be my last visit to this office, I was met with this comment, "oh, she's back." Imagine how this comment would make you feel? Would it make you feel confident, comfortable with the staff that would utter such a comment? And what if something serious was happening with your vision, would you feel that they care about your vision? This one comment told me about the toxic culture of this office. This expressed to me how patients are regarded. It was obvious there was discussion between staff about my visits for help, that I came to understand, they didn't appreciate my attempts to get assistance with my frames.
I found another eye doctors office and they confirmed that possibly the original measurement must have been off as the optimal point in the lenses where the progressive correction for reading is lower down on the lens that the frames do not allow adjustment to make that point high enough. Or they were ground incorrectly. In any case, never was the possibility offered to me that the lenses would be remade or corrected.
I did get a fix though. In addition to changing to another eye doctor, at their advice I got some thick eye glass nose pads that raise the frames enough so I can wear these frames.
The next office staff issue is when I had my sunglasses updated with my current prescription. I was standing right there, and one of the staff realized the frames were now cracked, obviously by the lens people. He asked something of another staff person, while he was inspecting the crack, that I think now was, should I tell her the frames are cracked? But, no they didn't tell me. These frames are only distance correction, that I use for driving. Still, they were not honest with me.
*** Sept 2025 Adding to this review. My husband continues to go to this office for his eye care and come to find out that after a year and a half, since his follow up appointments for his cataract removal surgery's (the local Dr does the follow up appointments so patients don't need to go into KC or Lawrence) he has an $80 credit. Were they ever going to tell us? Why have they not given us this credit back yet? They are mailing the money back only because I told my husband to call back and ask them for the refund. If we hadn't asked, would they have volunteered to pay out the refund? So many questions.
This was my experience, so I hope your experience with this office is better than mine.
I don't have anything good to say so shouldn't say anything! I had a bad experience where I had to go to specialist they never called with results until I went to another Dr and got it fixed! Dr said she thought she called lol! Ok then the office manager is the rudest person I ever met in my life
Everyone was wonderful. From checking in and doing preliminary testing, to the eye exam, to the frames/lenses consult. Three different people, but they all took time to explain every aspect of the process, listened to me talk about my lifestyle to better understand what type of treatment might better suit me, and answered every question I had. I booked the appointment before I knew I'd be moving to Wichita, and when the doctor found out, she offered multiple recommendations for new providers. Probably the best optometry provider experience I've had, i even considered staying with them when I move.
I had a great experience here. Lawson and Tasha were awesome... Tasha is no nonsense, straight to the point and knows how to do her job. Lawson was so warm, welcoming, personable and kind. Everyone was patient, attentive and asked greta questions. We moved to Baldwin City last year and this is my first time going to a doctor out here and I was pleasantly surprised, for a small town I was not expecting the service that I got. Tasha helped me get the glasses that I wanted and made sure my coverage was correct. Lawson made me feel good about myself and my choices when it came to frames, he was also super direct and clear when he was doing eye tests on me. The doctor himself was extremely, knowledgeable, explained everything clearly and, I could tell he truly cared about getting the right prescription for me and was even knowledgeable of other medical concerns.
I'm happy I went here and as long as I live in the Douglas county area I will choose this doctor and administrative team. Thank you guys, and I can't wait to pick up my new glasses!

I had called to schedule an appointment to get some frames I ordered online turned into prescription glasses. I talked to whomever answered the phone she asked me about my insurance and I had given her all the information I had. Then the woman said that my husbands "premium" eye insurance "basically doesn't cover anything, doesn't cover frames or lenses or pretty much anything." I didn't quite understand how that was possible but then she started rattling off numbers about how much my glasses would cost going through them, I would have to pay 145 for transition lenses, and then 170 for blue filter, and also I would have to pay 65 dollars just to be seen in the office so getting my glasses in total would cost me "well over 400.00." I am so glad I went with my gut and went somewhere else. I went to Dr. Stoppel in Gardner, Kansas. A mere 20 minutes away and 300.00 cheaper. It was amazing that the person at Dr. Stoppel's office immediately saw my coverage and told me that my visit would be a great deal less than I was quoted by Epic. It is utterly disgusting that the working people of the world pay out exuberant amounts of money in insurance and business's like this still exist. So to the doctors that run Epic you might want to check into your front staff because I am not the only one they have run off. I would NOT recommend this place. Not to mention the first time I went here, the woman leaned in and whispered asking me if I was on medicaid. I could not have been more offended.
Very professional. Clean establishment. The doctor and the staff are friendly. My eye exam was thorough. They explained everything thing as they were doing the exam. The doctor explained in terms I could understand. All in all, a great place . But you have to see it to believe it.
Everyone is helpful and kind.
I felt cared for and my vision needs were addressed in the best possible way.
I would not recommend going here, i was told I needed glasses when I have 20/20 vision. Also was told I had glaucoma lol I have a coloboma iris and they have no clue how to treat or have any knowledge about it. I've seen a specialist my whole life. So be told I have glaucoma and that I would go blind wasn't sitting right with me. Especially coming from someone who works the front desk and isn't a doctor. ;-/ Make a sale off someone else
