Downeast Eye: Timber H Gorman

I have been a patient of Dr. Timber Gorman for over a decade and have had approximately 12 appointments with her. She is professional and easy to talk to. The offices are clean and, I believe, unusually pleasant to be in. She has a singular, calming energy, which must come in very handy, as she routinely makes her patients wait between 45 min to an hour beyond their scheduled appointments. I think she and her office staff assume you will set aside an entire day for the privilege of eventually seeing her--probably briefly and during her breaks from other patients. As another reviewer stated, our options in the area are very limited. I now simply assume she will be at least an hour late from whatever time she says she will see me--at least an hour. I would advise setting aside a full three hours for the entire appointment, as she will likely not complete the visit without leaving you to attend to something she apparently deems more important, even when the appointment has been scheduled a year in advance. On one occasion, I had to reschedule an upcoming yearly exam, and the person on the phone acted as if I should be ashamed to even think Dr. Gorman would have time to see me within six months. If I had a choice, I would not return. I now only go in when absolutely necessary, and certainly not just to be tested for a new glasses prescription, which can be done in half the time just about anywhere else on the planet.

Two family members and one family friend have been seen by Timber Gorman for years. We have no complaints about her medical treatment, but we're all more than fed up her with her astounding inability to see patients more or less ON TIME. What's the point of having an appointment with a medical professional if they're not going to pay any mind to the clock? At Downeast Eye, ALWAYS the wait is at least an hour, even when it's still early in the day. Now, if Timber were a trauma surgeon, dealing with a string of emergencies, fine. But a regular physician or (in this case) an eye specialist? Come on. It's not just Timber. MANY medical professionals seem unable to see their patients as PAYING CLIENTS -- to them, maybe we're all just patients who should be grateful for the care we receive. I don't know. In Timber's case, she HABITUALLY makes patients WHO HAVE AN APPOINTMENT wait for 60, 90 minutes or more. What other business could possibly survive that way? The last time I was in the Downeast Eye waiting room, I overheard other patients talking with frustration about Timber always running way late. They felt this translated to a lack of respect for the patients' time. I joined the conversation. The consensus seemed to be that most of us are OK with waiting 5 to 15 minutes. 20 minutes is pushing it, and at that point she or an assistant should at least come out, apologize for the wait, briefly explain the reason, and give us a clear indication of how much longer we'll have to wait. The feeling was she kinda has us over a barrel because good eye care doctors (and she is that!) don't exactly abound in Downeast Maine. So we can't vote with our feet/wallet...but that doesn't make Timber's extreme tardiness any more acceptable.

Not my personal experience but my mother was mistreated and abused by several nurses. I'd have given 5 stars but the other staff members were horrible. The only person that was professional during her visit was Dr.Gorman she really liked her but everyone else was super rude.

My first visit and everyone was very nice. Dr. Gorman was very nice and thorough with my initial visit and sure my next visit will be just as great.

She was terrific. Took care of my eye issue in a caring and understanding way...what else can you ask for? Thank you Timber...
