I am deeply disappointed and alarmed by my mother's recent experience at Wilmer Eye Institute with Dr. Daoud. What should have been a straightforward cataract consultation turned into a frightening and completely avoidable medical ordeal. Before she ever saw the doctor, the medical assistants performed several tests using equipment and practices that were clearly lacking in basic hygiene. Within 48 hours, my mom developed a painful eye infection so severe that we had to take her to the ER, where she waited over six hours to be treated.
The ER physicians told her, without hesitation, that the infection was consistent with exposure to poor hygiene or unsanitary conditions during an eye exam. No patient should walk into a medical facility for routine care and walk out needing emergency treatment.
A place entrusted with eye health should uphold the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and professionalism. Instead, this experience showed serious lapses in basic infection control and patient care. We will not be returning, and I strongly urge others to exercise caution when choosing this office for their eye health.
Clearly about volume of patients. Sent bt ED after trauma to eye. Doctor had a horrible bedside manner, was cold and uncaring. No idea when I can wear my contacts again or when I might start feeling better. Or what to do if I dont feel bettwr. Can't recommend.
Very confusing locating the office.
And unfortunately the Dr my 2 year old seen, regarding an infection on his eye, was very condescending and not at all receptive of my concerns as a parent.
He told me my son can deal with the issue for a year and a half, before considering surgery because he did it, when he had the same issue with his eye.
Then when I told him I wasn't allowing my son to walk around for 1.5 years with a bump on eye, his response was "If you don't like my response, you can seek care from the doctor you took your daughter to." Since I mentioned to him my daughter had way better care for the same eye issue with a more respectful and caring physician at another clinic years earlier. And they took care of our family within 2 months, not 1.5 years.
The wait times to be seen here are a minimum of 2 hours! For one appointment, I waited for nearly 3 hours and just walked off! When you do finally get to be seen it's like winning the lottery and sadly at that point you are only meeting with the technician and not the doctor! I was beguiled by the Hopkins name which I assume most people have been! If you want scheduling dysfunction and chaos then this is your place! Their Baltimore location is a much safer bet but it's too far of a commute for me so moving on!
Don't let the reviews scare you too badly. The staff was kind and patient. My appointment did take several hours, but it was due to the thorough testing and review by the doctor.
Unreal, awful terrible service. I showed up [ after sitting in traffic for an hour] 1 min before appointment, stood waiting for the front desk employee who was god knows where for 5 min to check in. Then the front desk employee decides to give me some bs statement about wasting people's time and informs me that I can reschedule. Yeah No Ty, this office is a total waste of time and money, go anywhere else.
While the care at this practice is typically good, sometimes it's not. The wait is insufferable. First you wait about an hour past your appointment time to be seen by anyone. The first person you see is just a technician. You end up waiting another half hour to be seen by the doctor. I have had many appointments over many years here, and it's only gotten worse. I understand there are emergencies. I have no problem waiting half an hour. If someone came out and apologized for the delay, perhaps it wouldn't make me so angry. However, I have learned that it is much quicker to be seen at Wilmer eye in Baltimore than Columbia.
Similar experience to other post - just treated like $$$$ - Went to Dr. Seligson - she rushed through exam, told me my right eye was different than current glasses but then used the corrective lense over my glasses to show me what it should be and it was worse - she just brushed it off and never adjusted my contact lense prescription - sent me off with a contact lense trial that expired 4 years ago !!!! See pic. Unreal. Paid $100 for contact lense 'fitting' - Very sad - thought I was in great hands at Hopkins - Now I am back to square one. Want my money back.
