This was my first visit to Carolina Eye Center and I couldn't be happier with the professional and friendly care I received. I had significant vision issues and Dr. Owens and Dr. Ball explained everything to me using examples and words I could understand. Dr. Owens personally called me the next day to see if I had any other questions. Everyone I encountered during my visit was extremely attentive, caring and helpful.
I was able to find stylish glasses at a very affordable price. I could pick and choose different options for frames and lenses that were within my budget.
I highly recommend Carolina Eye Center Try them and you'll "see" why!
This is the best place I've ever been for eye care! I could tell the doctor genuinely cares for my eye health above all else. I never felt like they were pushy or selly. Tanya helped me pick out my glasses frames, and she took the time to compare all options with my insurance to see which would cost less for me. I really appreciated the time they took on me and that they treated me so nicely and not like just another number. Thanks guys!!
I'm not sure what has happened since i've last been here in 2017 but i feel like things have gone downhill and i will be switching to a new office. My appointment was at 9:30. It took almost an entire hour and most of that was me waiting in the eye exam room for the doctor. Maybe they are short staffed but I see my PCP faster than the time it took the eye doctor to come into the exam room.
They are also not up front about costs unless you ask and now i wish i knew to ask about exam costs before i wasted my time. We have good eye insurance VSP, and the exam cost me $104. When in the exam room he asked if i'd consider contacts and I said i'd be willing to give them a try again, and so he said he would order me a free trial pair to test out. He didnt mention, i'd also be charged $55 for a contacts exam! I couldnt even tell you what part of the exam was for the contacts..Charging a separate fee for that just seems obtuse especially for that price.
I was also there a week prior to ask about cost for getting my lens replaced in my sunglass and was told with my insurace it should be right at $100. Well it was $140 so i was given false information. So for my eye exam today and my lens replacement (not frames) I paid $240. With good insurance! They also charged me $39 for a screening which is apparently optional at every other eye doctor locally, but required here, and yet again that it is an extra cost. I have a $10 co pay for an eye exam, I asked for an eye exam so when i was there i thought all of this "stuff" they had me do was for the $10 co-pay eye exam. Go elsewhere.
Although I was able to get new contacts and glasses. The doctor there convinced me to switch to a different brand contact and clearly were receiving incentive for any customer who purchases this brand(was confirmed by front desk associate when I returned an entire 365 set for right eye and left eye) after wearing the current brand for over 17 years. After receiving my "new contacts" I realized I made the horrible choice entrusting the eye doctor to switch. When I went for my return only using 3 days worth of contact lens I was not able to receive a full refund (understandable) but was severely robbed in my opinion for the refund. The front desk associates are not friendly and judgemental to those who are not upper middle class or the upper class. I realized that quickly after my first appointment. Once I received the refund I quickly was able to order my acuvue lenses through Costco! I highly advise anyone who is lower or middle class to find a more friendly positive eye care center so you don't feel like a black sheep like I did. Will never go back!
Everything was great, except the cost. And I had to wait a while to check in because there was only one person at the desk, and she was on the phone. But after about 5 minutes, another worker came out and helped us, and then IMMEDIATELY after that, the other lady was able to hang up, which was good because there was a line behind us by this point. And then a 3rd person even showed up. After that, the wait wasn't too long. And the staff was excellent. Especially the initial nurse.
I'm not sure why, but they didn't even ask to dilate my eyes (but they did with my husband, but he's a few years older, so maybe that's why?). And the actual optometrist was very attentive and explained things and was happy to answer any questions.
Unfortunately, even with insurance, and not purchasing contacts, and choosing frames that were fully covered by insurance, it cost me over $500! I've never had to pay more than $150 anywhere else, even when I didn't have insurance to cover the lenses! So these better last me 10 years (which shouldn't be difficult, since I only wear them while driving).
If you're on any kind of budget, I recommend going somewhere else. Or, if you can afford $40 extra for the eye imaging (that they require here but that isn't covered by insurance), get your eye exam here, but take your prescription elsewhere. But since the eye image isn't actually required unless something is amiss, I would just recommend gong somewhere else, unless you have any issues that require more attention. But if you can afford to come hear, the service was fabulous.
I will say, it was only $75 more to upgrade to automatic sunglasses. So I went ahead and decided to try that, since I needed new polarized sunglasses for driving anyway. Unfortunately, they don't actually get dark enough. So I found some polarized sunglasses and I have to wear them over the top of the glasses, which negates the automatic sunglass aspect. So that was a waste.
Overall, I regret going here. But mainly because I kind of felt pressured to get my glasses here, and I should have shopped around and not wasted my money on the sunglass effect. Even so, the staff (specifically on the actual medical end) was really nice, so that's why I still gave it 3 stars.
Went to see doctor Jeffrey Tarr, the young lady was doing the test that checks for cancer she couldn't get it to work well. The doctor entered the room and in a low voice he said don't worry about it. So I left and will never go back. Tarr doesn't care about his patients just get in and get out. I have also found that if you don't buy there glasses, you are looked down on.
Great experience.
They saw me on the same day when other eye doctors in the area had a 3-week-plus wait. The place is new and clean. Dr. Owens was very affable and friendly, and expertly removed a foreign object from my eye without any pain or discomfort, explaining his process the whole way.
While I waited to see Dr. Owens, the other doctor (who I did not work with) was working on a small child in the room next to me. Listening in he was schoolteacher-level of good with that child. I was very impressed.
Best experience I've had in a long time. Shame they don't do dentistry as well.
I was looking for a new eye doctor as the one I had been going to for 30 years sold to another company and quickly went downhill. I made appointments for my child and myself. I could not be more happy with selecting this place. So far I have been for 3 appointments and by the time you sit down after being checked in, they are calling you. Unheard of at my other place ever, or any doctors office for that matter. The staff are kind, warm, welcoming, and personable. Although I have only seen one of the doctors, I imagine they are all wonderful. I would recommend anyone to make an appointment and check them out. My child told me after we left that he loved his new eye doctor and the place overall.
