Summerfield Family Eye Care

I recently went to Summerfield Family Eye Care for the first time. I have vision insurance and when I checked in told them that I did not want any extra services that were not covered under my co-pay. I am being billed $100 only because I have dry eyes and they wrote me a prescription for it. I was told that because I have dry eyes - and they had to write me a prescription that it became a medical claim. I was NOT told this by the doctor or office staff when I checked out. I am now being billed $100. Needless to say - I will not be returning to this practice.

Dr. Barts and the staff at Summerfield Family Eye care are the best in the business! I have been a patient for years and they have always been friendly and very professional. I highly recommend their services.

Dr Barts is wonderful! Very "patient centered", a great listener with an excellent bedside manner, and provides a thorough assessment and explanation of any eye concerns!

The doctors are great. The front service desk, not so much. Brandi and the gang has been overcharging my family of 5 for years, not understanding that our insurance offers a double benefit (both contacts and glasses, not one or the other). They all acted defensive when I pointed this out, and not so much as a "my bad" or "sorry for the inconvenience" when they realized they had been wrong all these years. Also, the cashier is a bit short with people and probably should be in the back office somewhere rather than talking to customers. It's a shame that we will be changing providers, as we all really liked the doctors.

Dr. Bates is a five star optometrist. I highly recommend her for your exam. Afterwards, ask for a copy of your new prescription and purchase your glasses elsewhere. I had a sub-par experience dealing with Brandi. I specifically asked for Crizal Sapphire and Eyezen lenses to which she said could be done. The total cost was less than I expected to pay for Crizal Sapphire and Eyezen lenses but didn't consider it too much since I had new insurance and thought perhaps it covered more than my previous insurance. I paid and was only provided a credit card receipt. No itemized bill. When my new glasses arrived I could tell instantly something was different. My vision was not as clear with this new pair of glasses as my old glasses. To verify, I asked Brandi if these were actually Crizal Sapphire and Eyezen lenses. I requested Eyezen lenses because of how impressively they improved the clarity of my vision with my old glasses. This new pair wasn't as clear. I also realized I didn't receive any certificates of authenticity which I had received in the past when purchasing Crizal and Eyezen lenses. Once again, she assured me they were. I wasn't convinced because she couldn't provide proof of authenticity. Brandi finally admitted that the lenses were not in fact Crizal Sapphire or Eyezen brand. She said the lenses she ordered were comparable/equivalent to the brand lenses. I expressed that I felt like she was dishonest because she should have told me at the time of purchase that the lab they use does not offer those brand lenses. This would've given me the opportunity to decide if I wanted to opt for the brand specific or the comparable/equivalent lenses. She should have also provided an itemized bill. Not just the credit card receipt for payment. I asked for an itemized bill on two separate occasions and it was never provided. Brandi did reorder my lenses from another lab and I paid the price difference as I understood the cost would be higher. By the end, Brandi avoided working with me and ultimately I worked with Mitzi. In contrast, Mitzi was wonderful. If you choose to purchase glasses from this office I suggest you work with Mitzi.

I highly recommend Summerfield Family Eye Care. I had to get new lenses for my glasses and they had to keep my glasses for two weeks. I was struggling with two sets of readers: one to read and one to drive. My glasses came in on a holiday weekend and Laura, in the optical department, knew how much I needed my new glasses. She came in to the office over the holiday weekend to meet me and give them to me. That is A+ customer care! I can see clearly again and the fit of the glasses is MUCH better than from my previous ophthalmologist. Dr. Sarah is the best of the best!!!! She truly cares for her patients. After seeing a different eye Dr. somewhere else for 3 months with no resolution I switched to Dr. Sarah and within a week my eye problem was resolved. So thankful for her, I would highly recommend.

I'm going to give two stars because Sarah is good with kids. My son is 6 and has pretty bad vision and has always been seen by them. He is double insured but the never have accepted his private insurance. Now that Medicaid has switched, they no longer accept that either! I honestly don't know what insurance they do accept! Sad they're losing clients over something like this. The part the was the most frustrating is he is due to be seen Monday, and had an appointment, yet I didn't get a phone call until the FRIDAY before his appointment telling me he can't be seen. Cool! We have been having issues stressing me out for weeks but you just now call me ?!?! I can't get him seen for around 6 weeks anywhere else. They need to get more organized.
