I had an eye exam performed by Dr. McBriar and purchased new glasses from the Walmart Vision & Glasses in North Huntingdon, PA on August 19, 2025. The experience started off poorly. My exam began with an associate who was still in training and did not know how to operate the equipment. After another employee came in to assist her, I was taken to a separate room for my actual exam with Dr. McBriar.
The exam itself felt rushed, and before I had even looked at any glasses in the display cases, I was handed the credit card reader and asked to pay my co-pay while still sitting in the exam chair.
After choosing a new pair of glasses, I paid my bill and was told I would receive a call when my glasses arrived--typically in about 7-10 days. To my surprise, they arrived in only 4-5 days, and I received a text message stating they were ready for pick-up along with the Vision Center's listed hours.
I left work early and drove to Walmart, arriving with about an hour to spare before closing time, only to discover the Vision Center had closed three hours early due to a staffing issue. No one called to inform me despite sending me a text message with their hours. I spoke with the front-end supervisor, but she could not release my glasses, so I had to make another trip the following day.
When I tried on my new glasses, I immediately noticed something was wrong. My right eye was extremely blurry, and I could no longer see distance. The optometrist suggested I "give it time" and try to adjust, but after walking around the store for just a few minutes, I returned them--I couldn't even read the store displays.
A week later, Walmart Vision Center contacted me and said the doctor had checked the glasses and insisted they were correct. I picked them up again, wore them briefly, and scheduled a re-exam. During this second exam, it was determined that the doctor had written down the wrong prescription for my right lens. My glasses were sent back to the lab once more with the corrected prescription.
When I asked for a copy of my prescription, I was handed a barely legible handwritten slip with numbers scratched out and rewritten, making it extremely difficult to read.
After receiving my glasses back for the third time, they didn't fit properly. The lenses made clicking sounds, felt loose in the frames, and shifted when I cleaned them. I was so frustrated that I no longer wanted to return.
Fast-forward to November--now when I go outside in the cold, the right lens pops out of the frame entirely, as if it wasn't cut to the proper size.
Out of frustration, I went on GlassesUSA and ordered a new pair of glasses out-of-pocket since my insurance benefits were already used for the year by the wonderful Walmart Vision Center.
Never again will I do business with Walmart Vision Center, and I will never recommend trusting them with something as important as your vision.

My daughter was given a trial pair of contacts, unfortunately she was not medically able to wear them, we went back a few days later to tell them that we wanted the glasses instead because the contacts were not working out. We were told the insurance was already billed for a contact visit and she was not able to get glasses now so she lost her benefit for this year and is not able to get glasses until next year. They never explain this to us in the beginning that if the trial contacts did not work out that we would also lose the glasses. We will be searching for a new optometrist
Awesome place. Friendly always happy to adjust glasses. Went there for an appointment super helpful friendly staff. Gave me some glasses cleaner at no charge. Highly recommend.
Still waiting on contacts for my 14-year-old daughter, appointment was beginning of August, told Dr if her eyes were bothering her from her contacts, he said they were fine. Gave her contacts they still bothered her went back for a follow up charged us, and doctor was extremely condescending to both of us. My 14-year-old daughter is not comfortable even being around him and quite frankly he's lucky my husband did not show up. He gave her another pair to try and said to call when we're ready to order if they work out... call to order, and he never wrote the prescription down as if we were never there. Now, Walmart won't do anything about it and he refuses to do anything about it and give us contacts unless she sees him again which she refuses to. don't go see Dr. McBriar. Just don't.
I went for an eye exam and glasses today. Such wonderful friendly staff. Dr McBriar was very friendly as well, funny and patient. The staff took time with me and I got a through eye exam. Nothing was rushed but went very quick and smoothly. Thanks to all the staff for a great appointment!
