My 2nd visit to NUH eye clinic was a breeze. Pre-registered and upon arrival got a queue number and folder. Directed to go to 17C. No need to wait. Staff attended to me straightaway.Staff were friendly and pleasant. I would like to commend Lor Kerli for her excellent service. She is patient and went the extra mile explaining the procedures as she did the tests. Thank you Keli for making my visit stress-free.

Referral by Jurong Polyclinic and my First Visit Consultation at the NUH Eye Surgery Centre - 17A, NUH Medical Centre, Zone B, Level 17, 17a, Lift Lobby B on 05 Feb 2025. Pre-appointment notifications via sms and you can pre-register on the NUHS mobile app on the appointment day. See attached screenshots. Upon arrival, go to the self-service registration kiosk and print out the Appointment Number Slip. You will get a folder to direct you to the various Eye-Check Stations (for me, 4 stations of eye tests), followed by Doctor Consultation. The Eye-Check stations in D and E are manned by helpful and "clockwork precision" nurses and staff. Completed all stations in less than an hour (very fast and efficient indeed.) The long waiting time is during Doctor Consultation as my eyes were dilated, and I have to wait for at least 45 mins to an hour before a detailed eye check. 9am appointment and finished around 11.15am. Next appointment in 3 months. Thank you Dr Katherine Lun, Nurses and Staff of NUH Eye Surgery Centre.
Did a walk in at A & E on 26 Feb 2025 at around 11 am for an eye infection. Nurse Tan Bee Ngeoh was very kind and empathetic. Got transferred to the eye surgery center room D03 in about an hour’s time. Despite the long line of patients, the doctor (sorry I didn’t get his name) was detailed in his eye checkup and his colleague Dr Goh was detailed in the follow up. Diagnosis was done after careful examination and medication provided was highly effective. Already feeling better in less than 24 hours, after suffering from a red eye for more than a month. Thank you so much to the doctors!
A few years back, I accompanied my dad to have an eye check because of blurred vision, as referred from our neighbourhood polyclinic. After that visit here, we were already telling ourselves that we will NEVER come back again due to poor service, long waiting time, and rude staff who had no regard for their patients. The time has come again. This time, I had to accompany my uncle to the same eye clinic over here again. No choice, since it is a clinic subsidised by the government and we can’t afford the better ends. I dreaded myself and really crossed my fingers hoping that my experience here will improve. But heck, I was delusional to even hope for that. Our appointment was at 12pm. We reached on time. We registered for our queue number and waited at the seating area. 45 minutes have passed, and I decided to ask if our turn will be next soon. The registration counter staff did not greet me but just immediately blurred “oh you need to give me this slip number la”. How would I have known, that we needed to pass our queue number to her?… I have taken pictures around the registration counter and NOTHING said that we have to do that (look at the attached pictures). After around 30 minutes, we got called in, to do a vision acuity test. Everything was okay, except that I overheard 2 staff at room D02 gossiped about the previous patient that they served. Gosh, I found it super unprofessional and I couldn’t help but kinda glared at them, and they stopped. I am now waiting at Room C04 for consultation, for close to 30 minutes already and waiting game is still as strong. I would not be surprised if I have to add on another disappointing matter after the consultation. Can something be done about this? Please? Just take a look at other reviews too.
I was referred by Choa Chu Kang polyclinic to NUH EYE CENTRE for eye check. Went there on 17th January 2025 appointment at 8.40am ,the clinic was located on 17 floor and the registration was smooth. It was very crowded but the eye check procedure was smooth. The ophthalmologist and optometrist are very professional, patient, polite, and explained in detail before they start the checks. I don't understand why people write on the review that the clinic is messy. Staff are very rude and not helpful. Registration is troublesome. and have to do 2 times. But they have forgotten that the first is to get Queue Numbers, and the second is to register and collect the A 4 folder containing your records.
I was referred to the NUH Eye Dept on 10 Dec 2024. After a 4.5h wait, I finally met with Dr Lim Zhi Wei. During the consult, I found that Dr Lim was not just calm, he was also kind, understanding, and thorough in his work. His sense of commitment and responsibility shone through. Such character traits in a doctor is a gem as most government doctors can be under extreme pressure with so many patients, and very little time for rest, or a break. Dr Lim finished with me at 6.30pm, and I think there were still two more patients after me, yet he even remembered and fulfilled his words to call me back in the night regarding the arrangements he had to make to perform a minor incision for my eye lid. I was heartened to receive a call from him at 9.40pm when he managed to make the necessary arrangements, as promised - after such a long and incredibly tedious day. I would therefore like to thank Dr Lim Zhi Wei from NUH Eye Dept, and give him praise and all accolades for his calmness, and as a doctor who genuinely cares for his patients from his heart, even under so much stress, and long hours. It feels warm and heartening to know, as a senior citizen, to be well cared for.
My tale is a cautionary one for anyone seeking to manage close-angle glaucoma at the NUH Eye Surgery Centre. By sheer coincidence, Dr. Cecilia, a former church friend, was assigned as my ophthalmologist. Unfortunately, my experience under her care has been both disappointing and troubling, leaving me no choice but to seek treatment elsewhere. To begin with, Dr. Cecilia strongly advocated for the use of Eybelis, a relatively new glaucoma eye drop. Around this time, Dr. Marcus, her superior, proposed an invasive cataract surgery under general anaesthesia (GA)—a curious choice given that cataract surgery is almost exclusively performed under local anaesthesia (LA). Dr. Cecilia later doubled down on this recommendation, contacting me via my personal WhatsApp number to push for the surgery. Meanwhile, my concerns about increasingly blurry vision due to Eybelis were ignored, as evidenced by her WhatsApp blue ticks. Despite waiting for more than a month, I have yet to receive any direct acknowledgment or feedback from either doctor regarding my concerns. Seeking a second opinion from a renowned specialist at Camden Medical Centre, I was advised that my intraocular pressure could be effectively managed with a strategic combination of eye drops. This doctor also refused to perform lucrative cataract surgery—even under LA—deeming it unnecessary and unethical at this stage. The stark difference between these approaches has left me deeply unsettled and questioning the practices at NUH Eye Surgery Centre. I feel compelled to share this experience as I cannot bear the thought of another hapless patient facing similar circumstances. My experience revealed what appears to be a troubling focus on seemingly novel, invasive solutions and expediency over genuine patient care. Regrettably, Google does not allow for 0 star reviews. Update: I just came across a Heath Sciences Authority report stating that Eybelis is CONTRAINDICATED for CLOSE ANGLE GLAUCOMA. Was I being made a DOUBLE LAB RAT?
This is a busy eye centre. There are many people and patients. I wonder if it is really short of staff or just that the system is overwhelmed. I strongly recommend that the Leaders perform an ops analysis (OA) and Kaizen to enhance the registration, administration and queue systems and processes. The NUHS App has the function of self registration prior to appointment on the actual day. It also requires one to declare that one has arrived in the App before a queue number is given. BUT, the pain is that one would have thought that one just has to wait to be called. WRONG! One still needs to approach the Registration Counter even if one has registered online. For this alone is a major flaw in the process - confusing and double work. In fact, it frustrated many who waited for nothing thinking that they have registered. Queue are long and the wait agonising as it is definitely beyond your appointed time given to you. I am posting this while waiting for my turn to consult the venerable Eye Doctor. Reminder: Please register at the counter!
