UPDATE: After posting this review, Solano EyeCare sent my family a formal termination letter, canceling all future appointments. Rather than addressing the operational issues I raised, they chose to dismiss us as patients.
This response confirms my concerns about their approach to patient care. A practice that terminates families for constructive feedback (especially a 3-star review that praised their in-person service) demonstrates they're more interested in protecting their reputation than improving patient experience.
I stand by my original review. The doctors and staff are genuinely kind in person, but the administrative systems need improvement. I had hoped this feedback would lead to positive changes. Instead, it cost my family our eye care provider.
If you're considering this practice, know that patient feedback is not welcomed here.
Original review:
I wish I could give them 5 stars. In person, the doctors and staff are kind, patient, and very helpful. Our family feels well cared for during visits.
Where they lose stars is with anything after the appointment, especially by phone. Prescriptions are given on paper, which is easy to lose, and emailed copies are not automatic. When I call in a rush to get a prescription so I can order lenses, I am often told it will "hopefully" be sent by the end of the day. There is no simple self service option or portal where I can log in and download our prescriptions, and the front desk is usually too busy to handle these requests quickly. An automated email system or online portal for prescriptions would save time for everyone and would turn this into an easy 5 star experience.
You get there on time, they actually see you on time. Dr was supportive while I was trying out different contact lens options. And I felt well taken care of by the professionals making sure all preventative scans and check up are in order.
Dr. Demi Chen was patient and thorough with my daughter, spending a lot of time to best understand her situation. She was also very prompt with her referral notes. Great experience.
I have been cared for by these amazing and kindhearted professionals for many years. Every optometrist and staff member I've worked with has been patient, flexible and respectful. I have my go-to folks -- shout out to Dr Ruth Chen, Viry and David! -- but everyone is great at what they do and it is a very low stress, great service space.
My first checkup at Solano Eyecare with Dr. Chen was fantastic. She is meticulous, unhurried, really listens and answers questions in a manner that's easy to understand. I requested some additional eye health exams, and she reviewed the images and explained them to me. All the staff I worked with were friendly and helpful, but beyond that, organised and incredibly efficient. There is a good vibe to the whole office: people take their work seriously, with dedication and care. I couldn't be happier!
Truly my favorite place for all my ocular needs! Kind, fast and communicative, I don't go anywhere else. Every employee is wonderful but I have a soft spot for the wonderful and ocularly fashionable Sakara
Ok, these guys just got a customer for life. I got my first pair of glasses here at age 48. As I no know, glasses are very expensive, and insurance only partially covers a pair every so many years. I got nice glasses. Flexon flames, Zeiss progressive lenses. Loved them. But, after a couple of months of trying to diagnose the new and expanding rash on my eye, I figured it out - contact dermatitis - I'm allergic to the nickel in the stainless steel parts of the $500+ dollar frames. Obviously, no fault at all to the shop, just unfortunate. I made an appointment to see what could be done. I forgot about it and missed it... they did not charge me the $50 missed appointment fee. I went in today and they gave me 100% credit on what I paid for my frames towards new titanium frames and COVERED THE COST OF NEW LENSES THEMSELVES. Bravo & thank you!!
So I had an eye appointment at Solano Eyecare today(9/14). Booked it for 11:00 am on Tuesday 9/12, and I made sure to ask the receptionist how long it would be because I needed to be home by 12:00 pm. He told me it would take no more than 30 minutes.
I arrived at 10:45(15mins earlier), got the paperwork done, and everything started smoothly. The doctor and the assistant were great. But when we got to the part with the diagnostic eye drops, they had me wait outside for a whole hour(1 hr = from exam finished - pupil dilation). By the time I felt the effect of the drops wearing off (I could even read messages on my phone), it was already 12:26 pm and the doctor was still with another patient. When I asked how much longer it would be, they couldn't even give me a clear answer.
In the end, I sat around for more than an hour just for a quick 1-minute check-up. On top of that, my parking ran out, I missed lunch with my husband, and we both had to race back for a meeting at 1 pm.
I would've been okay if they'd let me know it might take 2 hours. But squeezing in so many patients and not informing me about the potential wait? Not cool at all.
