Montclair Optical

Had a less than 1 min long conversation with this office today trying to make an appointment for an eye exam/get a new contact lens prescription. I was cut off twice (correcting my request, patronizing me, telling me that what my primary office told me was incorrect) and later emphasized, "I've been doing this for 40 years, I know what I'm talking about". I don't usually post negative reviews but this conversation wasn't long enough to warrant such a response and attitude. I'm also glad I took a minute to read the other reviews as this seems to be a common theme with this office/staff. Customer service, especially in a small town like Montclair should be top of mind. I shared this information with my mother and she told me she had a similar experience this year. We purchased her glasses out of state from our family optometrist who sent us to this office for a frame adjustment and the staff was extremely rude and said they couldn't accommodate but when they saw her glassed(which were very expensive), they said they would make an exception. If you've ever heard the saying you attract more bees with honey than with vinegar.. I think this applies. It doesn't cost anything to be nice, especially to new customers, especially over the phone. I don't care if you've been in this profession for 40 years or 6 months, the way you interact with your customers is a direct reflection of your business. It's clear there is a bigger issue at hand here, do better. I think someone else put it well, these offices are a dime a dozen. Go somewhere that makes you feel respected and welcomes you and your business.

After having lunch in Montclair, I was walking back to my car and noticed Montclair Optical. Since I suffer from the "why do you only need one pair of eyeglasses" syndrome, I went in take a look & was very pleasantly surprised by what I discovered. This boutique optical shop was filled with an inventory of familiar high end frame manufacturers and a number of which I was not. The owner Julia was knowledgeable and a delight to converse with about differing brands, styles & helping me to curate some options. Shops of this type of quality & variety are rare in the Bay Area and to top it all, the pricing was very competitive. While time limitations did not allow me to make a purchase, I will be coming back soon, and bring my spouse who also is afflicted with the same syndrome!

My partner and I stumbled upon this Optical location today. We love it. They offer a great selection of frames and many brands we have never heard of at very reasonable price points. The owner is absolutely pleasant, knowledgeable and courteous. My partner and I will definitely be getting our frames and lenses from Montclair Optical. I would recommend this location/business.

This was my first time coming across this store and meeting Julia the owner . I Simply was walking by and noticed some cool frames and was super excited to purchase and order some frames . But after my encounter with Julia the owner , I will never ever go back nor would i recommend this place to anyone . Julia was very discriminatory and rude . Your Better off going to another optical location with less judgmental and bias customer service . Julia made me feel very uncomfortable and accused me of taking pictures of the set up of the store and then explained she had " girls " who've taken pictures of the store before and was then robbed the next day . While Julia was with one customer I didn't even get a " Hello , how are you "when I walked in. When I started viewing the store I took some pictures of the frames she stopped me and then said do you have a question ? I said to her no ... I would love to order some frames , is that ok ? she sort of gave me a blank stare and gave off this energy entitled energy and then proceeded to say yes you can , but is there a reason your taking pictures ? I then said I wanted to show my partner because he was at work (: She continued to give me this strange look and said you can only take pictures with the glasses on and not of the glasses themselves . After almost 26 years of wearing and purchasing frames I never heard this before , so this was a new experience to me which is completely fine but I was definitely offended . She said oh yeah well I've had "girls "come in and take pictures of the set up of the store and then was completely robbed the next day . Basically accused me of attempting to do these acts in the future . Not sure what that has to do with me since I'm a new customer nor have I ever stolen frames a day in my life . She then stated I don't mean to offend you I've just had it happen before . It's honestly very unfortunate on how she acted and treated me in this situation. The owner should definitely reevaluate and find a better way to approach and speak to customers in these type of situations . The frames were super cute and it would have been such a great find being since I come here often to attend the farmers market and drop of film across the street .But very bias and strange behavior on the Owners part . Do better and good luck . Here's are some tips on how to practice Better customer service . Step 1 . Greet your customer with a warm smile and positive attitude. Step 2. Tell your customer if you have any questions please feel free to ask . Step 3 . Proceed to tell your customer , if you would like to take pictures of the frames , please try them on so you can get a better look of they would feel. Step 4 . Reassure and ask the customer how they are doing . Step 5 . Do not discriminate or hold bias against any person or persons Here's is why discrimination is harmful towards people . Discrimination is harmful and perpetuates inequality. We all have the right to be treated equally, regardless of our race, ethnicity, nationality, class, caste, religion, belief, sex, gender, language, sexual orientation, gender identity, sex characteristics, age, health or other status.

extremely unprofessional staff, very rude on the phone, I asked them about matsuda glasses and she was patronizing me saying there's no way for her to know what's in stock, then she kept referring to an earlier customer that came in asking about matsudas and thought I was the same person. I'm not sure what's going on in that shop, I just don't have the time for that level of toxicity. eyeglasses shop are a dime a dozen, look elsewhere

I found this hidden gem in Montclair. A little shop called Montclair Optical. This place has the coolest frames. I do not have the ability to pick out frames for my face, but the owner of this shop is gifted in this area.

One of the nicest and most humble business owners Ive had the pleasure to meet and have a great conversation with. Great customer service and attention to detail. Thank you.

Great selection and excellent, friendly service -- not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
