There's such a great team here. Dr. Lam was very clear, explained everything and answered all my questions after many many years of not seeing an eye doctor. Got me set up with exactly what I needed in a cost effective but complete way.
All the opticians were similarly clear, kind, and informative. They even were flexible with scheduling when I picked out my new frames and provided some very welcome guidance on what frame shapes work with my face.
If I could give more stars, I totally would, this place is absolutely amazing. I felt like they genuinely cared about me as an individual.
I cannot remember my eye doctors name, but she was so sweet. I remember she has a son and her daughters name is Olivia if you see this, I just want you to know that you're amazing and I appreciate it.
Staff is super friendly. I've been here before with my friend to pick up her frames and I was so impressed I had to come here for my own appointment and frames. Dr. Lam is super nice and professional. Lots of cool, independent brand frames to choose from. I ended picking up some Born In Brooklyn frames and I am very happy with my experience. They instantly get bonus points for their mascots, Frenchies Archie and Jack Jack.
Haven't seen their turnaround times yet, so 4 stars for now.
I always have a great experience coming here! Ana is very welcoming.Adrian and Kenisha are very helpful especially looking at what I liked.. they had a great selection! Dr.lam was super sweet and made me feel super comfortable. The whole office space is clean & I genuinely enjoy coming here for my visits.
Update to my post. Visited twice today, first for a half-arsed eye exam by a smug doctor (don't visit until Dr Lam is back). He was condescending and gave me a very short exam, not anything like Dr Lam or exams I have gotten previously. Didn't even check on the prisms in my prescription.
Second visit today was for contact lens fitting for my son...THEY DIDNT HAVE THE CORRECT LENS! Despite making the appointment as a follow up from a recent appointment. They just wasted my time.
And the woman there was so rude.
How in the world are they in operation?
I canceled all my appointments here and will never go back. How disappointed.
What a fun, hip spot. Oakland Vision Center has a great selection of glasses, prompt service and a leading edge approach to eye health. Highly recommend.
Definitely the best eye doctor I've had. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes, and the staff are always really welcoming. The doctor herself does a great job of explaining what she's doing and making sure you agree with any decisions around changing prescriptions and understand why your eyes need what they do. PLUS, I've been thrilled that you can communicate with them so easily via text -- this is a huge help for those of us who for whatever reason have trouble making appointments the phone! It makes everything so much easier
I have been going to Oakland Vision Center for years and have always had a great experience. Dr. Gill is fantastic, but the staff is also very friendly and helpful in all areas -- from helping you choose new glasses to making sure you understand your insurance and coverage to any other questions you might have, they're attentive and knowledgeable. Highly recommend giving them a try.
PLEASE READ Staff at the front was very nice, however I called beforehand to speak about benefits to Melissa, and she told me that I would have $200 off for both contacts and glasses and would not have to pay out of pocket because my insurance covered it. I went in and they said I would have to pay $40 out of pocket ("or UP to $130") for whatever reason. I had my exam done by Dr. Bonnie Hwang, with whom I essentially told her the details of my old prescription, that I had an astigmatism in my right eye, and the exact brand of lenses I wear currently. She just had to check if my vision had changed since I've been wearing contacts and glasses since I was 6. She confirmed my new prescription but then billed me $117 out of pocket for the exam "because she had to check for my astigmatism." I literally told her I had one, she didn't even need to check and because of that I'm billed an additional $77 dollars? How does that make sense? Also, the $200 rebate for contacts/glasses was for either glasses OR contacts. The $200 comes off the plastic frames, not even the prescribed lens inside of them (that's extra, and out of pocket). All the frames I saw were $201 dollars. Funny right? 2 boxes for each eye came out to be $300. Absolutely crazy. I've been going to the eye doctor in Chicago my entire life and have never had such a gimmicky experience in my life, considering I called beforehand about my benefits, essentially told the doctor my entire history WITH my old prescription, and was lied to about the $200 off contacts/glasses and how much the visit would be. Never coming back. Sorry to the front desk workers though, they were very sweet, but the entire business seems like a scam to me, to be honest.
