Had a great experience at my glasses eye exam yesterday. From the moment I walked in, the staff were friendly and welcoming. Dr. Rich was warm and calming exactly the energy you want from an eye doctor. I was impressed that they have the latest scanning technology, which meant I could skip the dreaded eye dilation.
After the exam, I headed downstairs to their shop, where the selection of frames is fantastic tons of stylish options. The staff there are just as friendly and incredibly patient with me as I took my time deciding (not the easiest customer when it comes to choices!). 10/10 would recommend.
City optics is a wonderful place. The doctor is knowledgeable and caring which is very hard to find. Rachel is fantastic!! She found the perfect pair of glasses for me and such a lovely person. She really is the best. Thank you so much!!
I love City Optix, I've been going there for years for eye exams and frames. Dr. Rich is awesome, always friendly, and answers my questions and eye exams are efficient. The techs and front desk people are also always so lovely too. It's a very pleasant overall experience. Downstairs, the frame selection is awesome with price points from quite high to low...ish. Definitely not a discount retailer, but I feel good about spending a little more for a frame that I feel is good quality, and since I can always swing by if I need an adjustment. The folks who work on the floor downstairs are great too! It's nice to see familiar faces over the years. I trust their feedback on what looks good (or more importantly, not good!) and never feel pressure to make a decision in the moment. Real eye wear professionals who know their stuff!
Go now, spend your flex dollars!!
Dr. Rich and his team were phenomenal! I worked in the Marina and had been on the hunt for a new optometrist. They were not only professional but courteous and informative. Would highly recommend to anyone on the hunt for a new optometrist in San Francisco.
I've been seeing Dr. Rich for my optometry needs for over 25 years. Also, City Optix has a great choice of frames. They do a perfect job of filling your prescription, so this is the one stop place for your eyecare.
Too bad zero stars isn't available. I'd give a zero stars to both City Optix and Dr. Rich Jeffrey, OD who owns this business and fails to properly manage it.
Last year I had a pair of glasses made at City Optix and it was the worst experience on every front. First, I had to come back because I couldn't see clearly in my glasses. They supposedly re-did the glasses again.. Guess what? It was wrong again. This time, the lady in the front of the store got super rude with me, and sent me away saying that "their expensive machine cannot be wrong, it's my own fault for moving too much, and to go live my life and come back later if it really bothers me." Keep in mind that she never said "you have 14 days to get it corrected."
After months of literal headaches from using the glasses, I came back and the same person refused to correct it and got extremely rude.
I did a little bit more research on their "expensive machine." It's called a Shamir Spark and is extremely precise but only as accurate as the technician using it. So it appears that this store has a huge problem in training workers to use the expensive device and also in basic customer service.
We later took the glasses to two other eyeglass stores who said that the technician was way off on the optical center of the glasses and the "OC height" was clearly wrong. They placed dots on my glasses where the optical center was and show that the only way to get those dots in the proper position was to hold the glasses up and out (about an inch from where they would naturally sit).
Simply put, the lens was correct in the glasses but the optical center of the lens was in the wrong place relative to where the glasses sit on my face.
One more thing: The clerk in the store admitted that they have a lot of turnover of people working in the store. It appears that this store tries to use an expensive machine to cover up for incompetent people but these people are either not smart enough or are not trained well enough to actually use the machine.
Stay away from this business, shady and mean people all around. If you work at this business and want to do what is right, contact me.

Dr Rich is excellent and the service has met my expectations! Highly recommended!
The store part staff is also doing their service very well, but I wish the store carried Ray-ban. Originally they discredit my Wayfarer that is made in Italy as made in China, but the Canada Goose frame they upsell me IS made in China. Getting the new frame is fine with me because I didn't have a decent spare but I wish they didnt had to upsell me that way. I wished for Rayban because I have accessories already for it like clip ons etc. This new Canada Goose frames seem to make me need to find custom clip ons due to its unusual enormous frame size.
The front desk lady was very friendly and professional. She explained everything clearly and went over all the optional services without being pushy, which I really appreciated.
However, when I went in for the actual eye exam, the doctor kept insisting that I should do one of the extra services even after I said I wasn't interested. I eventually agreed because I felt uncomfortable saying no again. After that, the doctor simply told me that I have astigmatism -- which I've known since I was nine years old -- so it felt like that extra test wasn't really necessary. It honestly made me feel like they thought I wouldn't know any better.
Overall, the check-in experience was great, but I didn't like feeling pressured into something I didn't need.
