Such great quality from a museum with completely free admission! The museum is rather small, encompassing a single floor with 2 or 3 subsections, but I managed to spend about 40 minutes in there. Eyes seem like a boring subject, but they make it interesting! Almost everything was interactive in some way and they have numerous artifacts on display, making it enjoyable and educational for both kids and adults. There was even an employee guiding a group of families when I visited. The only downsides I can think of is the lack of bathrooms and one of the interactive buttons not functioning, but that is really nitpicky. You can find public bathrooms at Ghirardelli Square. Overall, if you're looking for something quick, new, and free to do in the area, stop by the Museum of the Eye. 4/5.

Interesting museum and a hidden gem in SF. Lots of history of ophthalmology and some recent scientific advancements. Also, the admission is completely for free.

This museum is located in the American Academy of Ophthalmology headquarters building. This in itself is unique because most major medical associations are on the East coast. Admission is free and appropriate for all ages. You will find interesting exhibits, many of which are hands-on. Throughout the year they host eye-related events for the public, such as a presentation on opening champagne bottles safely, and creating Lover's Eyes.

A great museum of Vision that will speak to all ages and at all depths of knowledge. I especially liked the exhibits relating to world wide comparisons of symbolism among different cultures. The touch key interaction was easy to navigate. The actual antiquities on display are priceless. There was a very interesting Latino traditional craft tree Ochos de Dios on display. Keep changing the exhibits. So that I can see something different and return. Admission is free !

Not to be missed! Has some of the most important artifacts in the history of ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery. Has a collection of the original intraocular lenses, the very first slit lamp/eye microscope and a number of other interesting items. It's also free and in a really nice area near Ghirardelli Square.

An excellent museum that includes exhibits on common eye structures and conditions. Ophthalmological instruments and artifacts are associated descriptions of their clinical indications and brief historical sweep in which they occurred in the history of the discipline. I missed the tour, which would have been an added bonus. There is extra gravitas when the facts are with the exhibits. I was impressed. Glaucoma, strabismus and retinal diseases were covered. Even there is a factoid about Peanuts' Lucy I could produce, but it was about St. Lucy, who lost her eyes and was martyred, adding a bit to the notion that love is blind!
