UCSF Comprehensive Ophthalmology & Optometry Clinic

The doctor is good but all the front office staff are awful. They hide behind their monitors while on their cell phones. The wait for service is long. UCSF should ban personal cell phones so employees would do their jobs efficiently.

Wow .Talk about a state of the art facility with easy parking . A seamless flow with top notch staff . Latest and greatest equipment . Very impressed. Dr. Bhisitkal was spot on with diagnosis and treatment . What a relief .Issue was with me several years . Central serous retinopathy. Usually goes away but mine was chronic . Anyways he was the 3rd doctor to examine me . Finally a definitive diagnosis and treatment. Today he said it was all clear . Thanks Doc

Our initial experience and treatment was exemplary but since then have had a terrible time getting post op appointments, or a call back at all, waiting 2 hours for a 5 minute check. And the staff might be stressed but they really respond unkindly and disrespectfully to patients in general (since I had to wait 2 hours I saw multiple examples of this). I'm really soured on this place. Provided excellent treatment for my son's eye condition- doctors and staff went above and beyond to lay out treatment and get necessary insurance authorization.

The UCSF Mission Bay Optical Dispensary where you purchase eye glasses has amazing staff! There is no website to review them separately from UCSF Ophthalmology so I am putting my review here. The Optical Dispensary is located on the main floor and does not provide optometry services but rather eyeglasses. The two gentlemen who have helped me following new glasses needed after cataract surgery, have been super professional and want to get the job done to the clients satisfaction. Thank you!

OK maybe it's just me, but I found these folks quite rude. I was just wanting a routine eye exam, like I had received at their old campus back in 2017. They told me I would be treated as a new patient and needed a doctor referral, so I got my GP to send a referral. Then I called back, waited to get through, was transferred to someone else that I had to wait to get through and then was told I was being transferred to the scheduler. Got a voice mail left message, but they didn't call back. A few days later I tried again and went through the exact same thing, and again left message, explaining I had called before, but again never called me back. Third time I called I was trying to explain to the first person who answered what had been going on and I just wanted to make an appointment. Well she was quite rude, and telling me last time I had seen a glaucoma specialist, which I never did or least never knew about or requested. She was asking if I wanted to see the same glaucoma specialist or just an optometrist, and I kept saying I am not sure I just want the same kind of check up I got last time. Well after ALL of this this very rude woman, says they are not taking new patients in SF, but have openings in Berkeley. Are you kidding me? Anyway, I hope others do not have the same experience, but the old place on parnassus was great, but I do believe this place has a significant attitude problem.

Dr Seitzman is top notch. After an eye injury 2 years ago I've had waxing and waning vision in that eye. Seen multiple ophthalmologists including a corneal specialist at kaiser and no one could help me, just kept recommending lubricant eye drops / ointment and indefinite waiting. Dr Seitzman was familiar with my diagnosis and recommended two medications. Less than a week later and I'm seeing the best I've seen over the past 2 years! Had to take off one star because of how difficult it is to schedule appointments in a timely fashion. Took about 5 months for the first visit due to processing a referral and then only one staff member in all of UCSF is able to schedule the first appointment for Dr. Seitzman and she was on vacation. For my follow up appt, I found my doctor's scheduler's email address online and was able to reschedule the appointment through her much quicker that way. That system could be improved.

My strongest complaint is that the phone system is not practical for patients with low/poor vision. It is near impossible to respond using just the keypad. The response options should allow for voice response as well as keypad. My Mom has canceled appointments accidentally because she can't see which key she is pressing.
