I ordered a new pair of lenses for my 6-year-old daughter from Dan's Optical on October 10, 2025. She has a very high and complex prescription, and we were assured it would be no problem and that the lenses would be ready within a few weeks. It has now been over two months, and we still do not have her glasses.
I have called repeatedly over many weeks and was consistently given excuses or no return calls. I was told things like: "We're seeing patients, we'll call you back," "There are people ahead of you," "The lab is having issues," "It will be one more week," or "They should be done by the end of the week." When Fridays came, phones often went unanswered.
I finally spoke with the manager, who again promised the lenses would be ready by Friday, December 19, 2025--today. She also disclosed for the first time that the lab has had issues with nine different lenses, which is the reason for the delays. With that many problems, it's clear this office cannot handle my daughter's prescription.
What is most frustrating is that not once were we proactively notified that lenses were being reordered or that the lab was having issues. I only learned this after asking for a refund, at which point the manager defended the office by saying it was not their fault. However, communication is their responsibility. Calling customers back, providing updates, and not making promises they can't keep are all their responsibility.
At this point, I have zero confidence in this office. I requested a refund and made it clear that regardless, the delays and lack of transparency are unacceptable. If my daughter's glasses were to break or if she had an accident, she would be without glasses again for months--which is not feasible. Her prescription is extremely high and not typical, and her quality of life depends on having proper vision.
Let Me tell you about the nightmare I call DAN's OPTICAL. I first called Dan's Optical when I found out I needed to wear glasses. My mom has given me a pair of glasses that belonged to my Great Aunt, we were born on the same day, way different years though, she was born in 1896. They were solid BRASS w/ octagon lens, totally unique.
I never got to meet the woman but, I'd been told so much about her. My Grandmother always said that we looked a lot a like & now I get to wear have the same glasses as she has been wearing in the the few pictures I had seen of her, they even had her teeth marks in the end pieces. Dan's Optical said he could put new lens' in for me so off I went to drop them off, little did I know I that I would never see them again. When I got there, I handed over the glasses & My prescription & then he goes on to tell me that I needed bifocals, so naturally I have to get progressive lens, & I get migraines so I needed to be photochromic, (transitional) but I was being assured it wouldn't cost that much. Once it was all said & done with, on top of the $175 my insurance it cost me another $331, I couldn't believe it! Every penny I had saved. And that's not all, I waited close to a month, & in the meantime twice I was told that they were ready just to pay someone to drive me, because I don't have a car, there & back from Anderson to Shasta Lake City, did I mention twice? Finally the day comes that my glasses were ready, finally, so I find a ride & it's getting close to closing time, I get there all to find out that my BRASS glasses are now PEWTER, WHAT? NO! Needless to say there was no resolution, just the fact that my glasses are gone & I'm out $331 because I cannot see a thing in them!!! I'm going to include a picture of them here too, might as well not be the only one who sees my useless $500+ glasses.

I went to Dans wanting to use my frames. The eye exam went fine and I was told it would only take a few days to get my lens back from wherever they sent them to be made. I was quoted $300+ for the new lens, new nose pieces and putting the lens in my frame. That's a lot for lens, so you expect the quality to be great. The day I left after my eye exam my nose piece fell off my existing glasses so I had to use my old pair, no big deal it's only a few days. 3 months later they finally get my lens, I go in to have my glasses put together, they charge me for the nose piece, which was suppose to be part of my service and everything I look at is oblong. I go back in to see what they can do about this horrible distortion, and they tell me I will have to deal with the distortion or not be able to see as good. Great choices! Ugh. So everything is oblong and it drives me nuts. Be very cautious going to them. I do not recommend.
They were able to repair my metal glasses frames same day after my dog chewed up the ends and nose pieces all for an affordable price.
Was really impressed with Dan's Optical. Friendly very attentive owner, who obviously takes pride in making sure the customer is taken care of. Even offered to repair glasses that I didn't purchase there (An older pair that was falling apart). I felt an almost old fashioned sense of pride in this optical shop and it was very refreshing. Cost wise it was very competitive especially since I needed the glasses done on the fly. I had new glasses in under 24 hours without any additional charge. Overall I highly recommend considering them for your optical needs.
Went in today with a pair of reading glasses which needed some repair, glasses that I had bought elsewhere. They fixed it quickly and cheerfully, and when I asked how much I owed them, I was told "no charge." Great service! People who know how to please a potential new client instead of squeezing every last drop. Highly recommended.
I met Dan some years ago but only needed his experience with glasses this year. I had an accident 2 years ago chopping a piece of wood which resulted in a severe retinal detachment. Fortunetly it was able to be repaired. However, the damage was that I eventually can see about 40 percent of what I had. So off to Dan's optical. I picked out frames and we discussed prescription sunglasses. Because of my prescription my available selection of frames was limited and my preference was to go for the darkest lens. However Dan suggested I consider a driving lens which I ultimately selected. It has been fantastic!! I can see again with both eyes and can drive again with confidence. Dan and his staff are wonderful and their expertise is well evident. Prices are very and quality is outstanding. I recommend Dan's optical 100 percent.
Over the years Dan's optical has given me excellent service. When I buy my glasses, they give me the best recommendations based on my budget. When my glasses need a repair they have been kind enough to fix them. When my glasses were beyond repair and well beyond their expiration/guarantee point Dan's has recommended people in town who could help repair my glasses. In addition to this Dan and his crew go out of their way to help the homeless every year at a huge annual homeless convention. Dan's optical is A++ in my book and I will continue to support them.
