Optica Optometry

Excellent first visit! My husband and I arrived early to fill out forms. Very thorough. They explained our coverage for their services, did several different eye tests then helped us choose our new glasses. Delivery between 2-3 weeks. Very professional, organized and saw several people stop in for a quick glasses adjustment. We have found our new optometry office within walking distance from our home.

This was my first visit to this office. I was immediately greeted and was seen exactly at my appointment time. Dr. Chew was thorough and answered all my questions completely. The office and waiting area's clean and not cluttered. The frame selections are vast. I highly recommend this office. The entire staff was equally pleasant and attentive.

My exam was fine, no change to my contacts or glasses, same prescription. When I initially checked in I was told I would have a 20 dollar copay then When I checked out they added on a 170 contact lens fitting fee. This was not discussed prior. I looked on my VSP and it did not see any mention of the fitting fee. There was lack of transparency. I then wanted to discuss using insurance for glasses vs lenses and the staff member told me to go sit down and he'd discuss it with me in a moment. He seemed annoyed I was asking questions.I initially ended up checking out with a 6months supply of contacts and I asked for an itemized receipt , which they told me would be emailed. When I left my spouse informed me there is a rebate for a year supply of contacts as he goes to the same office and we have the same insurance. Soon after I left I called the office to discuss ordering a year for the rebate mid call I was put on hold, then a woman came on the line and abruptly said we are closing for lunch and they would call me back. No itemized receipt ever came. My husband stated he had never been charged a fitting fee previously for his contacts. I eventually got a call back and checked out with a full year but it took a 4th call from my husband to finally get an itemized receipt. They ended up charging me 150 dollars a box, I looked up the same contacts and they average 97-99 dollars a box. Staff was disrespectful and I am considering returning the boxes and never going to the office again. Which is a shame my husband has been going to them for quite sometime.

I recently visited Optica Optometry SSF as a new patient, and I couldn't be more pleased with my experience. From the moment I walked in, the staff was incredibly pleasant, welcoming, and professional, which immediately put my husband and I at ease. The optometrist was exceptionally thorough, taking the time to explain each step of the exam and making sure all my questions were answered. I truly felt cared for, not just rushed through an appointment. The level of detail and attention they provided was outstanding, and it gave me complete confidence in the care I received. Overall, Optica Optometry exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a compassionate, knowledgeable, and professional eye care team. It was quite a drive but I would still be going back. I'm so glad to have found this office!

I've been with Dr Michael Chew since his practice was at Westlake, DC in the 90's. Dr Chew is very thorough & cares about the health of his patients eyes. He listened to my concerns & worked with me. I say this because I had issues with dry eyes & prior to seeing Dr Chew, I went to see two other optometrist who didn't want to help me. Dr Chew on the other hand, patiently worked with me on my issue & found a resolution. Until now, he treats me with the same respect & provides great care. I also would like to thank his wonderful staff especially Lynnette & Michael Chew (his son) are so helpful, courteous & friendly people! Great customer service! I'm forever grateful to you all!

Update : Put in an order for 09/08/2025 and just called for a follow up seeing it would be able to arrive 09/18/2025. I was told it was ready today which is 09/12/2025. Awesome service really fast. Day 09/08/2025 Great customer service. Ordered frames for my husband because we were in the area. Place is very clean and parking is available. Michael thank you for your help and patience.

My wife and I have been going to Dr. Michael Chew for the last 30 years. Although we have relocated to the South Bay which is about one hour away from his Optica Optometry clinic in the peninsula, we still get our eye examinations with Dr Chew. Dr Michael Chew discovered my glaucoma eye disease from my visit 30 years ago and I'm forever thankful. Dr. Michael Chew is very thorough when performing the vision test procedure. His optical test equipments are modern and up to date, the clinic is very clean, organized and have a wide selections of frames. Kudos to your friendly staff and thank you Dr Chew! My family and I have been going to Optica for a number of years and have been seen at both the SSF and Millbrae sites. We've had great experiences - the front desk is efficient, optometrists knowledgeable and patient, and their glasses fitting personnel have been really helpful in both frame sizing/selection and dealing with adjustments as needed.
