Eyecare Center of Wethersfield

I went here for a routine eye exam using my vision insurance. It took a while for them to verify my insurance and the Dr. was ready to reschedule my appointment - literally sat at the front desk and told me to reschedule when they could verify it. Eventually, that got resolved. My co-pay was $5 and she said they would do a retina scan which would cost an additional $39. I said 'ok' and paid the fees. Went into the office and she was speaking at the speed of lightning and seemed more interested in rushing and being done with me. She did an eye scan and then told me she saw something on my retinas and her protocol needed me to go to the emergency room although they don't have the equipment to test my eyes. So, naturally I asked why I would be going to the ER if they didn't have the capability to do the testing. Then she asked what medical insurance I have and that she could do the additional test onsite to 'see if' it is really a medical emergency. Then she started googling the 'issue' and asked me to look at Google images to see if they matched the scan. At this point I was wondering if I was being seen by the custodian. Because if your job as a Dr. is to explain a condition to your patient, google images is not particularly reassuring. When the Dr. later confirmed with her assistant that my health insurance wouldn't pay additional bills without a pre-approval/referral she said ' just go to the emergency room' and then asked me to sign a form saying I was refusing to do so. Her tone was very alarmist and dismissive and she definitely was only interested in what she could bill. She was kind enough to mention that their progressives start at $500 and go up to $1000, if I would be interested in getting my new glasses there. Today I went to another eye doctor, and had my eyes rechecked because I felt Dr. Ramamurthy was a quack. My new eye exam showed I had NO issues and I had them do the works to be sure. Dr. Ramamurthy made up things to try to get me to pay for additional scans, likely to later tell me nothing was wrong. It was all about billing and money grubbing. I don't know what kind of scam operation they are running over there, but save yourself and go elsewhere. All they care about is what they can bill you for. Terrible bedside manner. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I have been a patient at this office for a few years now. Consistently Dr. Ramamurthy and her staff are professional and kind. The service is excellent. Responses to phone inquiries are very timely. The environment feels more familial than clinical and trust me, a nurse, it is a welcome change.

A great experience from top to bottom! Got me in quick for an appointment, explained each test thoroughly, and seemed like everyone genuinely cared! From the receptionist to the doctor all exceeded my expectations!

My insurance recommended this place to me. I went in to get a new prescription and new glasses. I did not like any glasses that they had so I decided to get some online. The pupillary distance was missing in the prescription sheet that they gave me. I called them and asked for it since the pupillary distance is part of my prescription. They told me that since I did not purchase glasses from them that I would have to pay around 30 dollars just to know my pupillary distance. Mind you my insurance is paying them to give me my FULL prescription which they did not. They are looking for ways to get more money out of you and this is how they lose business. Do not go to this place!

I've been going to Eyecare Center of Wethersfield for a few years now. I can't recommend them enough. From the doctor to the office staff, everyone is very knowledgeable, friendly, highly efficient and helpful. I switched from a chain practice where the doctors were very pushy and I felt like they were always trying to upsell me on stuff I didn't need. Dr. Ramamurthy is not that kind of doctor. The experience with her actually feels like healthcare and not commerce. On the other side of things, they do have an extensive selection of frames and were really patient with me while I tried on multiple styles. They helped me pick out an amazing pair that were a little different for me, but really complimented my fearures and are classically stylish. I've gotten multiple compliments on them EVERY single day I've worn them. I really couldn't be happier with the practice or my new glasses!! They deserve more than 5 stars!

I went here for an eye exam. I had to purchase new glasses. I had them use my old frames and just purchased lenses. They sold me some blue blocker stuff that made my eyes look pink. so I asked them to fix it which they did within a few weeks.. I also wanted to put reading lenses into my old frames. They wanted $350 just for the lenses. when I told him that was too much, he said I can do it for $200 When I said no, he went down to $90 this place tries to upsell everything. shady sales tax by the doctor. I had another appointment scheduled. I canceled it. I'll never go back there again.

Absolutely the worst eye doctor I have ever seen in my whole entire life. Never in any doctor's appointment have I ever felt so rushed and so not listened to. HORRIBLE

Dr ramamurry is a great eye dotor both caring and professional. She worked wonders on a hard patient to fit and fitted me perfectly for glasses and contacts. Her staff is pleasant and professional. The office is beaitiful with tv. I ihighy recommend the doctor and will go to her for years to come as needed. Bob
