I experienced severe pain in my head and eyes, starting with pupil dilation, narrow genetic eye passages, and slightly progressed cataracts. After about four hours, the pain became intense. Luckily, Dr. Chapman, an ophthalmologist, visited my store and examined my eyes. He told me to follow him to his clinic for immediate treatment. When I mentioned having scheduled clients, he insisted it couldn't wait until tomorrow.
At the clinic, my intraocular pressure was measured at 66, whereas the normal range is between 10 and 20. Dr. Chapman diagnosed me with acute angle-closure glaucoma, explaining that if left untreated, I could permanently lose my vision within a day or two. He administered oral medication and eye drops repeatedly, checking my pressure over the course of an hour until it dropped to 40. Seeing the medications were working, he advised me to rest at home and return in the morning, emphasizing the urgency and giving me his contact in case of emergencies. His two nurses also stayed after hours to assist with my care.
After a shower at home, I noticed a black object about 1/4
inches long and 1/8 inch wide floating in my vision, which scared me. I contacted Dr. Chapman, who assured me that unless it resembled a curtain, I could wait until morning. The next day, my intraocular pressure had decreased to 12, and fortunately, my optic nerve remained undamaged. Dr. Chapman, relieved, credited divine intervention, saying that God had helped me.
If Dr. Chapman hadn't come to my store that afternoon, I would have lost my optic nerve. Through his dedication and compassionate treatment, he preserved my vision. After a laser procedure to clear the blockage and ten days of recovery, my vision is now 95% normal. The cataract surgery we discussed is no longer necessary, for which I am immensely grateful. All I could say was, "Thank you so much."
I have heard that doctors fight against the death that looms over their patients. Dr. Chapman fought to save my dying optic nerve. I entrust my eyes to him and consider him my savior. Dr. Chapman, you are my benefactor who preserved my sight with the true heart of a doctor. Thank you.
