She helped me last summer with a real upsurge in blepharitis and dry eye.- serious problem and she was well acquainted with the research and care I needed. I can and do highly recommend her for advanced eye care. Another friend had a very successful cataract surgery performed by her. Her skill exceeds not people in medical practice on the Big Island.
This year, in June, I went to Kona Hospital for an abnormality in my right eye, which was not diagnosed on the spot and I was referred here the next day.
I was immediately examined and was relieved, but I was worried because the equipment looked old and the room was dark. However, I remember that the doctor was kind, and as a result of his diagnosis, he told me that I was under stress, and since I was going through a difficult time at work, I responded and received eye drops on the spot.
However, at that point, I had no more than half vision in my right eye (colorful), and I happened to be scheduled to go to Japan two days later, so I was concerned and went to a Japanese ophthalmologist. "Why didn't you diagnose it earlier? He was angered,
As a result, my vision in my right eye has not returned to this day. To be honest, I am now in a difficult situation.
Dr. Susan Senft went way above and beyond to save our vacation! While visiting the big island, my wife started seeing a flurry of "floaters" which is a warning sign for possible retina problems. She called her optometrist back home who told us to immediately head to the ER. They didn't have an ophthalmologist on call, but thankfully put us in touch with Dr Senft. It was Saturday afternoon during her day off but she immediately agreed to meet us at her office to conduct an impromptu examination. I mean who offers this level of personal service and commitment anymore? She was very thorough and explained things in lay persons terms that we could easily understand. Best of all, she confirmed the problem didn't require immediate attention and that we could resume our vacation without worry. Whew, what a HUGE relief! Bottom line, if she didn't offer to do the exam right then and there, we would've been forced to take the next flight out to Oahu to see a specialist, effectively putting an end to our vacation. So yes, Dr. Senft literally saved the day and for that we are very grateful. If you're in need of an eye specialist who is compassionate, competent, personable and professional, look no further!
My husband and myself feel so lucky to have such a well experienced and skilled Ophthalmologist with her compassionate and committed manner.
My husband recently had Cataract surgery on his both eyes with Multifocal lens. The results are well beyond his expectations. His eyesight, both far and near, is the same as he had when he was twenty five years old, 50 years ago. All the colors are as vivid as high-definition television. He can read newspapers, books, and do his crossword puzzles without the need of eyeglasses. I have never seen him this happy in a long time. My deeply felt thank you to Dr. Senft and all her staff for making this miracle happen. I highly recommend Island Eye Care to anyone who needs top notch eye care.
I was here on vacation from Missouri and felt like I had an infection in my eye. After several days of it bothering me it seemed to be getting worse. I thought I better try to get into a doctor and went to Dr Senft at her office at Island eye care and they were able to see me that day. It turned out that I had a torn piece of contact in my eye. She numbed my eye and got it out and wrote me a prescription as my eye had gotten infected. Dr Senft was able to figure out what was wrong right away and got my eye taken care of. It was such a relief to get it resolved! Dr Senft thank you so much!!!
I was inappropriately diagnosed with narrow angles, making me at risk for Narrow Angle Glaucoma. She scheduled me to do a laser surgery/iridotomy the following day. Two ophthalmologists later confirmed that I do NOT have narrow angles and DID NOT NEED LASER SURGERY. Luckily I canceled the laser surgery after I saw another ophthalmologist.
She and her staff were lovely, but I think she is NOT practicing good medicine and is doing laser surgeries for financial gain. Hope Rice, MD
I was referred to her fro. The er. She was not my regular eye dr.
Long story short she convinced me to have light cataracts removed. First 1 was fine. Second she cut my iris and now it feels like I'm looking thru dirty plastic with no way to correct.
She is aloof , wont discuss what her plans are and treats you like a cash cow which is how she runs her office. Several times I heard her tell assistant how to bill which didnt match what she did with me.
Stay away at all costs
gave me a line about why I have this blurry vision.

I made an appointment to get eye drops for my allergies and prescription eye glasses. I had wait 2.5 hours to see the doctor. Someone in the office did some tests that weren't explained to me. The outcome was that I was supposedly have narrow angles. I am in my mid 40th and didn't feel any of the described symptoms. They made a follow up appointment for more tests a month later. When I came into the office I was told I had an outstanding bill for over $100 if I wanted to take care of it. I was surprised and asked why I wasn't told that my insurance wouldn't cover the tests before they did it. Then I asked if today's tests were covered and they told me they didn't know it was my job to find out. They wrote down 4 codes on a small piece of paper and told me I could call the insurance to find out. I explained that I can't just have tests done without knowing how much it will be and they told me again it was my responsibility to call the insurance.
