National Vision

I'm 41 years old and have routinely gone to the eye doctor since I was a very young child, so I believe I have had enough experience with eyecare professionals to fairly determine who is "good" and who is not so good. I prefer to focus on the good, so I want to give a shout-out to Kenneth Ryfkogel, located in the Walmart Vision Center off of Henry St. in Kailua-Kona. It seems I routinely lose my vision insurance prior to my prescription expiring and this visit was no exception. Since we live in one of the most expensive places in the world (totally worth it, by the way), I have to be careful about what I spend. I called around and could not find a better price on the island (Dr. Ryfkogel was $100 less than Costco). Of course, one might assume that an "affordable" doctor might equate to sub-par care, but I found the complete opposite. Dr. Ryfkogel's staff (Skye in the front was exceptionally knowledgeable and professional) takes their job seriously. My appointment was on-time and the most thorough I've ever received. They didn't pressure me into taking expensive additional vision tests that I could not afford. Dr. Ryfkogel taught me so much about my eyes that I was unaware of before (i.e. pressing on my dry eyes slowly kills the nerves), so that I can be more pro-active in caring for a very important organ in my body....the eyes are the window to our soul, right? :) He explained everything as he was doing it, so I felt like I actually got to be a part of my own care. The only "down" side I can say about this physician is that I probably will never be able to prounounce his name, but I'll go ahead and give five stars anyway. ;) Mahalo Dr. Ryfkogel and staff. Your care and professionalism does not go unnoticed.
