My glasses were crooked, went to this place for a quick fix, and they charged me $10. All other places where I have my glasses aligned did it for free, including Walmart, Target, and America's Best contacts & eyeglasses
The optometrist was really kind and helpful, but the front staff were less so, and almost dismissive. My order took a strangely long time to arrive - I probably could have ordered cheaper contacts online faster, and I don't feel that the quality of the ones I've gotten are any better, or that the staff listened to my issues with the trial pair I had. Overall, happy I got the exam, but probably wouldn't go back.
I LOVE going to Illini Eye Care! Christina at the front desk is super friendly and helpful. I had an eye emergency recently and she took my concerns very seriously and talked to Dr. Johnson and was able to get me in 20 minutes later (that was the earliest I could get there). Dr. Johnson is the best eye doctor I have ever had. In addition to normal eye exams, he was also really patient during my emergency. He worked on my eye for an hour at the end of the day to make sure I could go home comfortably. Then he and Christina took time afterward to give me more advice and answer all of my questions. I saved SO much money by going here instead of the emergency room for my type of eye emergency. Christina even called the next day to check on me and answer more questions! Love these guys.
Great place with great customer service. I came in thinking I needed a new frame which would have cost upwards of $70. Turns out they could fix the part of my frame that was broken for just $5 and it took them less than 10 minutes. They did an amazing job and my glasses look just like new!
I have not had good experiences here. The most recent issue was when I asked for my prescription to purchase contacts at a different supplier. The staff was hesitant to give me the prescription in the first place. When they finally complied to my request, they faxed my prescription information to the retailer which I was buying from as expired even though my prescription did not expired for another two days. Not professional and seemed to hold a grudge based on my choice to purchase cheaper contact lenses elsewhere. I would encourage other students at UIUC like myself to avoid this optometrist based on my previous negative encounters with the staff. Reading previous reviews posted may solidify the notion and general outlook of the staff being less than courteous to patients.
Don't get your glasses here, just get your exam/prescription, if anything. and contacts are cheaper if you order through Walgreens. While Dr Sunday is kind, the woman that runs the glasses fitting/sales is obnoxious and a bit of a bully. With UIUC insurance they'll overcharge you plenty. When my new glasses worsened my headaches they said they would not do returns even within a couple weeks (!!) but just as a favor I suppose, they took them back and gave me half my money... I was out $200 but happy to be done dealing with this. I then tried my insurance with Target optical and for really nice frames and premium poly lenses with all the frills (anti reflective/scratch/UV, etc) I spent only $70 total. You know what takes the cake? They assured me the glasses are 100% returnable with my receipt. Expensive lesson learned...
I woke up with an incredible pain in my eye and figured I had ruptured it or got an ulcer. I got an appointment within an hour, and as soon as I walked in, the doctor walked me into the back of the room. Everything was so fast and he was incredibly knowledgeable. He gave me the best options, told me exactly everything i needed, and I didnt feel like he was trying to get more money out of my pocket for it.
While I was there I must admit that there were some really weird and crazy international people who were rude, one of them couldn't understand his insurance coverage. It made me very uncomfortable. I witnessed that once when I came in to pick up contacts once as well. It's none of my business, but I just wanted to mention that the receptionists look a bit intimidating, but are very kind, polite, and do what they can to help.
Professional treatment from staff and the doctor. Just a very ignorant establishment. The doctor acted as if he's never seen someone with an Asian name who's from the States. The casual conversation during the eye exam started out like "Here in the US eye exams work this way blah blah blah", and the doctor just couldn't stop bringing up his stereotypical judgements the entire time. I felt annoyed but was just too cool to give a damn. Overall it's fine, but I would take somewhere else over it just for a better day.
