After my appointment I started bawling because Dr. Johnson was so condescending the entire time. He even messed up my prescription between nearsightedness and farsightedness, so now I can't wear the glasses I ordered and have to reorder a pair. I trusted his prescription when ordering my glasses and typed in the exact numbers he wrote down, but realized switched the + and - symbols when I tried them on and immediately got a headache.
I had a wonderful experience. Staff is friendly, kind and helpful. Dr. Johnson was thorough and very nice. He took time with me to understand my needs and find the best prescription strength for me. He explained everything in detail. They had a decent selection of eyewear to choose from. There was a frame I liked and staff offered to order it in a different color for me to try on to see if I liked the color. I felt they went above and beyond to help me. I have VSP insurance and using it was streamline in their office. I received top notch service with a small town feel - which is hard to find! Very pleased with my experience and would recommend.
I've taken my kids here for several years, but never gone regularly myself. I decided it was time for contacts for me.
Everything from the appointment to being fit for the lenses to them giving me a replacement for one I lost to getting my order was great.
Dr Johnson and his staff are caring, knowledgeable and ready to go the extra mile to insure their patients have a great experience and are taken care of.
Long story short, I was lied to about the cost of an eye exam recently. 2 stars because we had a very nice experience with the staff that helped us in the office, but I've been burnt twice here now and both have cost me. I don't make a habit of blasting businesses online, but the full story is below if you're interested.
The first experience was several years ago and the doctor was insistent on prescribing me a more expensive contact lens to correct for astigmatism, even after me coming back to the office several times to tell him that it was really uncomfortable. I trusted his judgment and kept trying to adjust to the discomfort, but finally decided 6 months later to get a second opinion and learned that I didn't need this corrective lens, especially if it was causing me discomfort. I think people are inherently good and mean well, so I just chalked that up to a miscue by the doctor - people are human. The second experience ended yesterday. My son needed contacts in a hurry for baseball and this office is the only one in town. Other folks really seem to like it, so I called up to give them another shot. I asked the gentleman on the phone how much it would cost for an eye exam and contact lens fitting. The answer was that it depends...so asked what exactly does it depend upon...to which he replied "what the doctor wants to charge". I get that there are some variables in there, so I pressed on and asked if there was a range he could give me and he replied that it would cost somewhere between $40 and $65. Perfect, so we went. When we arrived at the office, I mentioned calling earlier and was acknowledged by the only man I noticed in the office, aside from the doctor. The exam itself was great, and the doctor took substantial time with us and my son to explain contacts. During the fitting, the woman who helped us was wonderful as well, taking the time and patience to help him insert and remove the lenses. When we went to check out and settle up, the woman who had been helping us (very friendly and helpful) noted on our paperwork that the cost was going to be $75...which obviously spurred me to mention my conversation with a man over the phone prior to coming in. There was a man at the counter who acknowledged he spoke to me on the phone, so the very nice woman that had been helping us offered to talk with the doctor and see what the case was. In the meantime, they wanted my son to try out the contacts for a week or so and make sure they were comfortable anyway, so we parted. A few weeks later (longer than we probably should have waited) we came back to settle up and discuss ordering contacts (or at least getting the prescription). Same nice woman was there (along with the man that I spoke to on the phone) and she helped us. The price was again not what I was quoted over the phone, so she went to the back and spoke with someone, came back out and said that they could knock 20% off something, but that brought our total to $116...apparently I was being charged $76 for the exam and $40 for a contact lens fitting. Yes, I understand that these two separate transactions at most offices, but I asked specifically what the cost was going to be for both when I called. I was visibly livid, and she could tell as she kept apologizing, which prompted me to apologize to her for having to deal with my situation which was clearly not her fault. I had to pay the bill in order to get my son's prescription, so I did, but I'm done with this place and will share my stories with anyone that asks. The man who most likely gave me the wrong information was standing at the counter and didn't offer to help in any way during this situation...I'm assuming he didn't remember me at this point anyway. I should have recognized the red flags when he wouldn't give me a straight answer about the costs over the phone, but we needed a quick turnaround and I honestly try to give people the benefit of the doubt. My mistake on all these fronts, but hopefully this review might help someone avoid my poor choices.
Have been going to Dr. Curtis for several years and have never been disappointed. He is professional, thorough, an friendly. Always happy to help if I have questions or need help with my contacts or glasses. I highly recommend Dr. Johnson to everyone.
