Please be advised that this office charges a credit card processing fee but does not explicity state this before taking payment. I have purchased my contacts from this office for years but this year after paying and receiving my invoice, I noticed a $33 credit card processing fee. I called right away and expressed my frustration to the office and they explained it couldnt be reversed due to already putting it through to insurance. This office has always been kind and easy to work with, but I am frustrated that in the last two years Ive spent 50 dollars in credit card fees without ever being told this. I have sent an email suggesting that they explicitly state this to future clients to prevent this frustration from happening to someone else.

Be sure to help Heather do her job by asking her to verify your insurance before getting your exam done. My daughter has been a client for over 10 years and had an appointment this morning. Heather didn't mention anything about insurance or collect a copay before the exam but after the exam informed my daughter that they don't take her new insurance (EyeMed, which is proudly displayed on Dr. Backus' website). After the bait and switch, my daughter was forced to pay no-insurance full-price for the exam already given. A $10 in-network exam copay turned into a $135 charge all because Heather didn't check if she had insurance before services were rendered. Let our misfortune be your gain by either not going here or making sure you take the time to double- and triple-check they are doing their job. Update: My daughter went back to the practice and they apparently have a sign that says it's the patient's responsibility to tell them about the insurance and to know ahead of time what insurance they take (apparently they take our insurance, EyeMed, but just not the specific plan we have). They deny responsibility because I guess it's just extra work that they don't want to do. The customer is always wrong. It's disappointing that a practice my own mother used to work at, who still considers herself a close friend to Dr. Backus, would treat a former employee's family this way because it means loyalty and friendship mean nothing and THEY JUST WANT MONEY. Looking at Dr. Backus' website it looked like they accepted our insurance. If they had just collected the copay before the exam, like every other medical professional does, none of this would have happened.

The best place in town! If you want a professional timely eye exam with a doctor who cares and not shuffled room to room like some other places in town, this is your place. Ignore the only negative review by some over baring mother whose daughter I feel so sorry for. This is a professional staff that knows what they are doing from start to finish.

When I visited for my appointment this past December, I was told there was no copay, and I was led to believe they accepted the EyeMed coverage that I have through my employer. When I returned to pick up my contacts, I was even told that everything was completely covered by my vision coverage and I owed nothing. A few weeks later, their front office called me to tell me that they actually don't accept my insurance and that I owed $450. It caught me completely offguard. They did let me return the unopened boxes of contacts, but I still wound up having to pay them north of $200 for my appointment. As someone who doesn't have a lot of money and had been a patient for well over 10 years, I was really disheartened by the way things were handled. If I had known that they no longer accepted my insurance, I would not have used their office. What makes the situation even more frustrating is that I see (via other recent reviews) that other people had the exact same issue about a month ago, and their office has done nothing to address the lack of clarity about what insurance they take. So, unless you want hundreds of dollars in unexpected bills after being told that everything is covered, I'd use a different eyecare provider in town.

The young lady that did my tests was fantastic and super approachable. Dr. Backus was very helpful with providing information on my exam and things to consider. The young ladies helping me pick out my frames were simply the best! Recommend all day every day!

Quick and easy eye exam. First time patient and I was in and out within 20 minutes. Convenient and professional.

The ladies that work here are amazing! They are so helpful and so kind. Especially Sarah she has been so helpful with all my issues with my glasses. She's a rockstar along with all the other ladies and of course Dr Backus.

Highly professional and thorough. I would recommend Dr. Backus and his eyeware department.
