Colander-Nolan Eye Clinic

Dr Colander was great.He was very friendly and Kind . Unfortunately some of his office need some retraining. Today was my second time at his office. My first time was when I went for my eye exam. I want to see him because I had a referral from my primary care doctor to get an eye exam because I am a diabetic. I am supposed to get an eye exam every year. I walked in and the woman at the reception desk was not very personable. I checked in and sat down. I realized after I had been sitting that I had not being any paperwork to fill out as I was a new patient. I approached her and asked if I was supposed to feel anything out being that it was my first appointment. She looked at me and said it's your first appointment hold on let me ask and then she said yes she youneed to fill out paperwork. So the rest of my appointment went to okay until I was called to pick out glasses. I informed the lady that I was not interested in having any glasses made because I was using my Medicaid insurance to pay for the appointment. I am currently wearing glasses that I paid for out of my pocket 3 years ago that are no-line bifocals. I have worn no line bifocals since I was initially prescribed bifocals. Medicaid does not pay for anything like that and when you use your Medicaid insurance limited and what frames you can pick out and I would have had to get bifocal lenses with the little windows. I told the woman dispensing glasses ma'am I'm not going to have glasses made I won't wear them I currently wearing bifocals and then I didn't want to waste her time. She told me oh no I need to have glasses made what if the glasses I was wearing break up. I told her that I had two other pairs of glasses with older prescriptions that I could see out of and could wear should the ones I was currently wearing break etc she said oh no you need to get the glasses so I reluctantly picked out a pair of glasses. Fast forward to today I go into pick them up. I walk into the office and the s same woman who at the reception desk the day I had my appointment once again at the reception desk she asked why I was there an informed her that I was there pick up my glasses. She went over to the area where they dispensed the glasses and proceeded to look for mine another young lady came out from the back and she told us that she couldn't find the glasses for me (saying my name) the other young lady said they're in the back let me go get them. She went to get them and handed them to me and proceeded to walk away. To which I said hold on you need to come back. I already know I am going to need my glasses adjusted. I always do whenever I get new glasses.. what that young lady should have done is handed me the glasses had me put them on and say let's see if we need to adjust them but know that did not happen she just handed me them and walked away. I don't know if I was getting treated that way because I had Medicaid insurance or not. But you should treat everybody the same regardless of what kind of insurance that they have

Unfortunately, my experience was very unpleasant. The front desk lady was rude and made me feel uncomfortable from the moment I arrived. Here attitude felt unwelcoming and unprofessional.

The doctor is super kind and he answered to all my questions. But the front deck young lady black hair she has to take classes for Customer Service . She was so mean to mean and she made me wait over a hour for my turn and when I asked her that she was like well mistakes happen

My favorite eye doctor, he is always kind and helpful.He is the best doctor in the area for eyes, trustworthy , helpful He has a really kind staff .

I been coming here for couple years, so far the best doctor to come here.

This review is being written several weeks after getting new glasses. I used to go to Lens Crafters but my insurance changed making me go here. I see a lot of complaints about the staff but for the most part the were fine. One woman did stand over me the entire time I was picking frames and seemed to get slightly irritated that it took me so long (i do take a long time but there was no reason to hover) They wont adjust the glasses to fit on your face there and I just had to guess that they were ok. (they are slightly askew) However my real problem is the glasses I received. The glare is the worst possible thing. It is giving me headaches by the end of the day. I didn't get any special lenses or films from lens crafters but trying on my old glasses now the difference is startling. I will be wearing my 2 year old scratched up glasses with an outdated prescription at home and only wearing the ones I got here for work as I have to get six inches from my screen to read the text. Truly regret coming here.

I have been going here since I was a kid so it takes a lot for me to stop going here. The doctor told me I had a "lazy eye"; I do not have a lazy eye but my condition is in the same family and can progress to lazy eye so that is an alarming statement, not just ignorant. The doctor looked at me and said I had something that would have needed a sample/testing for, and refused to provide anything to help treat this serious condition I supposedly had and told me I needed to perform more hygiene. My GP told me this was grossly inappropriate and false, I do not have the serious condition. Colander also just acts like he has no time for anyone and my impression is his associate staff try to compensate for this but it's a weird situation. They also almost ordered my glasses without an important component (prism) because the doctor was that busy/gruff/short.

Dr. Colander is a nice doctor. I have been going there for a long time. The office itself looks very nice and clean with a large variety of glasses to choose from. The new staff is for the minus stars. It seems like they are not trained well to handle multiple customers at a time, maybe due to scheduling conflicts (too many people at once) in the office? Or it could be their billing system/ insurance process is outdated and/ or limited.
