I was very impressed from start to finish. When I checked in they were so welcoming. The person that prepped me for Dr. Abrams to examine my eyes was so nice and very thorough. Dr. Abrams was personable and explained everything so that I understood my options. I appreciated that he took the time to make sure I had all my questions answered. I wholeheartedly recommend them.
The doctor and technician were both good, but the customer service experience was very disrespectful. When the staff member called me, her expression was unwelcoming from the start. I asked her to repeat something to make sure I understood correctly, and she sighed, looked at me, and said, "That's what I told you," in a rude tone. It made me feel as if I was begging for service.
I believe the rest of the customer service team is good, but this particular interaction was very unpleasant and unacceptable.
I wanted to thank Abrams Eyecare in Carmel for seeing me last minute when I was having concerning eye problems and freaking out about it. They were really good working with me with my cognitive issues and were really thorough with the exam. Thank you Dr Tobe!
My mom has been going to Abrams Eye Care for many years. In the past year I have accompanied her on several appointments and procedures. The last time, the technician Rachel was incredibly rude and disrespectful. My mom is almost 89 years old, has mobility issues, uses a walker, and has vision loss. Rachel opened the door, yelled mom's name from across the waiting room, then turned and walked away from us as we were making our way towards her. The hallways turn right, then left on the way to the examination rooms. She was so far ahead of us that we didn't know where she went - how insensitive and rude. Once we got to the examination room, she curtly said, "you sit here" to mom and "you can sit in the corner chair," to me in a nasty tone. She proceeded to ask my mom questions about what eye drops she's taking. She asks her every time what color is the cap on her drops. There is NO cap!!! Her eye drops come in a single use tube. She didn't give mom any time to think. She rushed her. It was so offensive I jumped in to answer her rude questions. After Rachel's interrogation, we waited in Exam Room #9 for an hour before we saw the doctor. When he finally came in, he was with her for 3 minutes, at most. Mom tried calling many times the week before with questions about her failing vision and NEVER got a return call. It's obvious customer service is not Abrams Eye Care's forte, and that's a shame.
I was able to schedule an appointment very quickly, but the overall experience was disappointing. I waited a while before being seen and even longer after the technician. The doctor was a nice person, but the exam felt rushed, and my results and prescriptions were not clearly explained.
I was told my prescription had not changed, yet when I reviewed it at home, I noticed differences between my contact and glasses prescriptions in one eye but not the other. This raised concerns for me, especially since one eye felt overcorrected. When I followed up in person and through the patient portal, I never heard directly from the doctor. The staff members I spoke with were not polite, showed little empathy, and focused more on defending office policy rather than addressing my concerns.
I requested a follow-up appointment to review the exam and clarify the prescription, but this was declined. Instead, I was offered another regular appointment, which did not resolve the issue of the care I had already received. No clear solution was offered, and I felt pressured to accept explanations that were not adequately communicated.
I was surprised by how easily I was able to schedule an appointment almost the next day, and after this experience, it's not hard to understand why patients may be leaving. I also could not find any clear way to contact a manager or executive to formally address my concerns. Despite the awards and reputation the practice highlights, my experience lacked communication, accountability, and patient-centered care.
Dr. Hopen and his staff were able to put me at ease and answer all my questions. I was in the exam room a couple of minutes before my appointment time. The doctor and staff coordinated the exam, a couple of tests and following discussion in a timely manner. I would definitely recommend Dr. Hopen at Abrams EyeCare.
Everyone did an excellent job. The only problem was that no one answered the phone so I could make a first appointment. When I received a return call, the call said Possible Spam so I was reluctant to answer. Luckily I answered or I would have needed to find another Eyecare provider.
Loved the eye doctor! She was the sweetest and very thorough. The lady that I saw afterwards to order my glasses though was not so much.
