Dr. Matthew Burkart

I have actually seen Dr. Burkart. I see a lot of doctors, having multiple chronic illnesses. Most of my experiences with the healthcare system in general are negative. Dr. Burkart is an exceptionally good doctor. He is exceptionally present, engaged, and respectful. He didn't just do the minimum necessary to get me in and out. He addressed an issue that concerned him greatly, my severely dry eyes. He didn't just tell me "I'm prescribing this". He had a conversation with me, told me his concern, told me how concerned he was, explained what I could do to address it, and then made his recommendation, explaining why. And this is for eye drops! Really no risk involved with going the more aggressive route, and still he didn't dictate to me like I was a child. He respected the fact that these are my eyes and it is my decision (a basic right and respect you frequently have to fight for, and still rarely get, when you're chronically ill). He made it very clear what he thought but without any hint of pressure to agree with him. I did agree with him that going straight to prescription eye drops would be best, at which point he expressed relief at my decision, stating again that he felt the issue was "pretty bad". He expressed genuine concern, not just as a doctor to a patient, but as a human being to another human being. Exceptional doctoring. The other reviewer never even saw Dr. Burkart. They left a negative review because they were late for the appointment and couldn't be seen. That has absolutely nothing to do with Dr. Burkart. This is Dr. Burkart's private practice. He didn't just choose not to see this person. And he certainly did not choose for that person to be late for their appointment in the first place.

If I could rate a zero I would! I had an appointment set, but got caught in traffic, and was 10 minutes late. I notified them of this as well. I get there and am in the elevator, and they call and won't see me! Seriously? Absolutely ridiculous that they could not in any way fit me in or even try! I spent 2 hours of my time and gas, and was turned away because of no fault of my own! I will never recommend this Dr. or their facility. Community is supposed to care, and I see no evidence of it!
