I moved from the state of Maryland to Sioux Falls, South Dakota in January 2018, and became a full-time motorhome dweller travelling from city-to-city and state-to-state during Sioux Falls Winter Months. I was diagnosed with Glaucoma at age forty-five and began wearing eyeglasses as well as using daily eye-drops which were expensive a few weeks later. Meanwhile, because I had been with all of my Maryland doctors for thirty-five years and they knew everything about me. It was going to be frustrating to move to a new city; not knowing anyone and attempt to find new reliable doctors who has a moral commitment to do the right things to ensure the overall wellness of his/her patients are met.
I consider it a blessing to found doctors who exceeds my expectation of professionalism, empathy, and compassion. Because of my own comment I write reviews of my findings including my experience with doctors to help other potential patients to find good doctors as well. As a result, I spend a lot of time researching doctors on the American Board of Medical Specialties, National Institutes of Health PubMed, etc. and reading reviews. Which led me to some doctors I still use and others I have left, because their practice and/or services no longer meet my needs.
In 2018, upon moving to Sioux Falls I met Mick E. Vanden Bosch, my Ophthalmologist at Sanford Eye Center located at 1621 S. Minnesota Ave. At this time, I found Dr. Bosch to be very professional, compassionate, empathetic, thoughtful, a great listener and an exceptional doctor. He reminded me of my Maryland doctors, who were never in a hurry to rush off to see their next patient. Dr. Bosch always made me feel the health of my eyes and about what was happening to my eyes were important and knowing what to expect in the future was also important to understand.
Furthermore, it was Dr. Bosch who decided it was time to implant glaucoma stents in both eyes to slow the growth of my glaucoma by reducing eye pressure. At the same time, Dr. Bosch performed cataract surgery which eliminated the daily use of eye-drops and wearing eyeglasses. My life and vision are so much better because of these procedures. Also, I don't have to stop driving and found off-highway places to park my motorhome before dark, nor keep adjusting eyeglasses on my face.
I readily admits, it was unnerving not to be able to see, and deal with my bossy girlfriend who traveled from Madera, California to lead me around and take care of me until my eyes healed which I didn't enjoy but learned; it was okay to accept help from others when needed. Later upon returning to Sioux Falls, I discovered Dr. Bosch had left Sanford Eye Center, and I had been transferred to another doctor at the eye center which was fine for a while. However, because Dr. Bosch was such an excellent doctor, I missed my annual eye checkups with him and telling him about my travels when I returned to Sioux Falls.
Frankly, Sanford Eye Center staff refused to tell me where Dr. Bosch went. So, I was determined to find him because I am a researcher and writer by trade; as such I can find anything and anybody. As a result, I found Dr. Bosch and scheduled my first annual returning eye checkup appointment at his new office located at; Orange City Ophthalmology Clinic, 1000 Lincoln Cir SE Orange City, IA 51041-1862, which was performed on August 22, 2024, an hour, and a half drive from Sioux Falls. Dr. Bosch will always be my Ophthalmologist because he is an excellent doctor, and a person of good character who cares about his patients. I highly recommend Dr. Bosch, if you are looking for or need a new Ophthalmologist.
