I will not be going back to this eye doctor. To start, I made my appointment with Dr. Joseph Kessler, whom I did not see or hear anything about, aside from his name being on my multitude of appointment reminders via texts, emails, and voicemails. Instead I saw Annette Manion, O.D., who I didn't know the name of until I was handed my Rx's on my way out the door. Another notable missing piece of info from those appointment notifications was that I would need to bring my SSN card. Some folks can't memorize that number due to imparments that effect the order of numbers and letters. The front staffs suggestion that I go home, find the number, call them to give it to them and schedule a new appointment was likewise unhelpful. I have ADHD and scheduling appointments is not quite that easy. They needed it to confirm insurance, yet did not want to see my vision insurance card once. Onto the appointment... I had filled out a questionnaire with my health info and current eye struggles prior to the appointment. Not once were these asked about. The person I saw, presumably Annette Manion, was very cheerful-aggressive (I'm not sure how else to describe it, though it made me supremely uncomfortable). It felt like she talked to me like I was a toddler she just wanted out of there as quick as possible rather than an adult woman. Any questions I did work up the courage to ask were met with rushed, rude, and frankly unhelpful answers. I was also charged for services they did not make me aware of ahead of time and did not have me sign for - eye tests (with the machines) and a contact fitting (which I don't think I actually needed, she just told me to put them in and I did). I was under the impression the eye tests fell under the eye exam portion of my appointment. I will take some responsibility on that for not fully understanding my insurance benfits, however, I do believe a patient should be made aware of these things by the provider before doing them (informed consent) and they shouldn't assume those who do not work in the field are as well informed as they on how all that works. All in all, I left the appointment feeling very uncomfortable, rushed, and not any better about the condition of my eye health.

I was seen quickly by Dr. Kessler and had the best interaction I have ever had an eye doctor and I have been seeing them since I was 8 so that means something. He was a great listener and did amazing explaining everything. Along with that, I always seem to lie between lens prescription which makes it really hard for me to decide (especially because I am indecisive) on which is better for me but he made it so easy! He checked my vision at the end with the new contacts and used lenses to verify on what I thought was best, which no doctor has ever done before but to me that was life changing. I have really bad eyesight and for the first time in a long time, I know I have the perfect prescription at the moment and can see so clearly.

I had a great experience @ the Merriam location. Dr. Reed was amazing. He listened and talked about my concerns. The girls @ the front desk were top notch. Very friendly.

Please avoid this eye clinic at all costs. I had been a loyal customer here for 2-3 years. Before my recent eye exam, I was assured that my insurance was in-network. They checked everything and confirmed I was covered. I went to my appointment, everything went smoothly, and I ordered contacts--paying over $600 out of pocket. Then, out of nowhere, I receive a call saying they just realized I'm actually out-of-network. Now, they're only willing to refund me $400. To make matters worse, the woman on the phone had the nerve to cop an attitude with me. Yes, I raised my voice--because she got smart with me first. I asked to speak to someone higher up, and instead of handling the situation professionally, she kept repeating what billing told her and refusing to escalate it. They are essentially punishing me for their mistake, shorting me $200, and refusing to take responsibility. This is unacceptable. They misled me, took my money, and are now trying to keep part of it after admitting fault. Do not go to this location. They are ripping people off by telling them one thing upfront and changing the story after you've already paid. Save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere.

I just had an exam and I'm a bit frustrated. I had an appointment for an eye exam, not a "fitting". I did not ask for this, don't need it, and wasn't told I was purchasing it. I was told during the exam to try on contacts. I was never under the impression I would be charged for a fitting when I was never asked. I did not provide consent to purchasing a fitting, and was only told at the end that I received one and would be charged for it. This seems pretty sneaky/misleading and it made a very sour end to an otherwise lovely experience. Reached out to them and got a very clinical response that didn't have a single refute to anything I sent them or an apology for the confusion. I did not get a refund for the "fitting" I was never told I was paying for.

My whole family sees Dr. Kessler, I went in recently for an exam due to headaches and not being able to drive at night. I had no idea I had an astigmatism and needed a prescription on top of that. Received my glasses and I can see so much better. 10/10 for Kessler for helping me& his front desk ladies are so kind and patient.

Although the staff were nice, I saw Dr. Kessler recently for my annual eye exam and had a very bad experience. Despite a history of detached retina in my family and thinning of my own retinas - of which I informed him - he said (or rather told his assistant even though I was right there) that I would have to come back for a second visit to do dilation, given I was also getting a prescription for contacts and he purportedly wanted me to try out the contacts he was recommending for a couple days (even though I have contacts already and was happy with my prior brand; just needed to re-up the prescription). First, I have never had to go twice in all my years of having glasses/contacts, unless it was to pick up glasses or contacts that I ordered, and I've always been dilated *at* my annual appointment given my and my family history. Second, when I did come back for my "follow-up" appointment, he did not even have me slated for dilation, resulting in my eyes not getting actually checked out despite using my annual insurance visit on this - essentially - charade of two time-wasting eye appointments. Third, my glasses prescription did not include a recommendation for the necessary thin lenses, which I need given my prescription, and which is completely routine and has always been recommended for me in the past. I do not normally leave reviews but felt I should this time given having a thorough eye doctor is important. Dr. Kessler was rushed, arrogant, not thorough, and failed to actually assess my eye health. I would avoid him as an optometrist.

Dr. Reed changed my prescription and said if I don't like it to call and they can resend the old one. Well, the new one didn't work. I messaged him on the portal and got no response. I waited a week and called and was completely ghosted. I still need a prescription so I'm going to have to pay cash somewhere else to get a new exam because they billed my benefits already. I just want to order contacts, and am unable. This is really frustrating.
