Maine Family Eye Care

Very poor experience with Maine Eye Care. Our kiddo has been a patient there for 2.5 years. They lost their eyeglasses just before coming home for winter break freshman year in college. Maine Eye Care said they can't make new eye glasses because the prescription is too old, they don't have any open appointments for 2 months, and we should get care closer to our kiddo's college campus. They were very rude about it. My goodness!

The ophthalmologist was nice but the the staff is questionable. They kept asking me to get closer to the machine until my eye was touching the device. The day after the eye exam I woke up with some kind of infection and couldn't open my left eye. Eyelids were stuck together by some kind of crust. Had never experienced this before. The billing department adamantly told me it couldn't have come from them, even though they called in a prescription for it. Then, the infection came back and they charged an office visit to give same prescription. Cost me about $490 extra and it still hasn't gone away.

Dr Elkinson always makes sure that all my questions are answered, and his staff is always friendly n helpful. Has a wide variety of eyewear to chose from to fit everyone's style.

On the first day of our motorcycle trip, my husband lost the scew to one of his eyeglass arms. The screw was tiny, I mean TEENY TINY so none of the repair kits carried by local stores had anything remotely teeny tiny enough. Great. Now what? I suggested duct tape, but he's a sweaty mess beneath that helmet and we left the nail gun in Connecticut. So, we Google area eye care places, he made a quick call and we headed over. Walking in, we we're greeted with smiles and "Ohhh, so your the stranger with the screw loose!" Everyone was friendly and accommodating, a ridiculously small screw was located and the thin bent arm straightened. They even cleaned the lenses and let us drink the water from the bubbler while we waiting and chatted. My husband reached for his wallet, but was told "no charge!" Wow, how freaking nice is that? We're home now and I wanted to leave a review. It's not often you visit any kind of office and immediately feel welcome and comfortable and it was genuine. We won't forget the hospitality. I have been going to Mark Elkinson for probably 25 years now. He is fantastic. He explains everything so you can understand what he's talking about! I never feel rushed. His team of workers are always so friendly. I would highly recommend going to him.

Dr. Elkinson and his entire staff are WONDERFUL! I have zero complaints and my mom and I always have a great experience here. Dr. E has such a calm demeanor, always listens to your concerns, is respectful and a wonderful eye doc. His staff is equally as wonderful. We always feel so welcome here. Best office environment I've ever encountered.
