Dr. Whitten and his Staff are so courteous and very efficient. My cataract surgeries were pain free and quick. I would highly recommend Dr. Whitten for any of your eye problems.
It was amazing to be able to see clearly (20/20 vision) right after my surgery after having blurry vision and could not drive at night for years. I can now drive at night and read steet signs, etc. The best gift I could have gotten, my sight back!
Procedure performed on the wrong eye. I had my first LASIK procedure with Dr. Mark Whitten in 2005 for vision correction. Naturally, about 15 years later, I needed another correction and returned to Dr. Whitten for a consultation. During that visit, he recommended monovision, given my age at the time (late 40s). He explained that this approach would allow me to balance both near- and far-sighted vision without needing reading glasses, which many people begin using in their 50s.
However, after the procedure I immediately noticed difficulty seeing clearly. Over the following year, I continued to struggle with my vision--particularly problematic in my work as a professional photographer--and sought evaluations from multiple optometrists and ophthalmologists. I then discovered that the LASIK procedure had been performed on the wrong eye.
When I returned to see Dr. Whitten, I learned that neither he nor his staff had ever determined my dominant eye prior to surgery. In fact, my old patient notes from 2020 confirm that no such test was performed. Despite this, no apology was offered for the mistake.
During that visit, I was seen by John Rogers, a technician and former Senior Surgical Consultant at TLC Vision. His background includes attending Computer Tech of Pittsburgh, but he has no formal education or degree in optometry or ophthalmology. He suggested inappropriate options such as cataract surgery (for which I am not a candidate) and during the same visit Dr. Whitten suggested undergoing yet another LASIK procedure (a third) to correct the issue or resorting to contact lenses--the very reason I had LASIK in the first place.
This experience left me with the strong impression that the practice prioritizes business and profit over genuine patient care and vision correction. I regret not doing more thorough research before returning for a second procedure, as I have since learned of multiple malpractice lawsuits filed against Dr. Whitten, including Jamie Domeier vs. Mark Whitten, David Cantalupo vs. Mark Whitten, and Liesl Nichols vs. Mark Whitten.
I also couldn't help but notice the promotional posters displayed across his offices, highlighting his LASIK surgery on Tiger Woods in 1999 as a marketing tool to brand himself as a "celebrity" doctor. Unfortunately, beyond the image, his apparent lack of attention and care for patients has led to a troubling number of lawsuits.
Dr Whitten did my interocular lens exchange. Restoring all distance and close up vision.
For once in my life I can read medicine bottles, drive, watch television and clean without needing glasses. I love this man and I'll enjoy my permanent vision until the day I die.
Best decision, ever! I had wanted to get laser eye surgery for years, but was always on the fence about it. This procedure was so fast and Dr. Whitten walks you through the entire process in your consult AND as he is doing the surgery. I would recommend him to anyone in a heartbeat! So glad I finally made the decision to get it done, and with Dr. Whitten.
Easy setting up the appointment, in and out on operation day quickly even after Doctor Whitten took the time to explain to me the procedure and what to do afterwards. Great price for this kind of freedom. Been wearing glasses for 35 years, contacts for 25, was so relieved to not require them anymore, I can see my alarm clock next to my bed without putting on my glasses, I have better than 20/20 vision now. Thanks Doctor Whitten!
Dr Whitten and staff are wonderful. He is a true professional in eye care. I had cataract surgery done by Dr. Whitten. He explained the procedure thoroughly and answered all my questions. I highly recommend him!
Pleasant and knowledgeable staff as well as Dr. Whitten and his assistant during the procedure. There is no waiting, very timely and I couldn't be happier with my current vision. Reasonable and well worth the $ spent, highly recommend.
Saw Dr. Deugwillo for my annual eye exam and she was outstanding! Professional, thorough, not rushed, answered all my questions! Exceptional Dr! Great addition to Whitten Laser Eye Care!!!
