At the beginning of 2023 I was rear-ended at a stoplight. I thought it was a small thing, even though I had some strange symptoms at the time. I felt discombobulated, nauseas, my ribs hurt, I felt panicky, and jittery. I became very tired and was told a couple days of rest was good, but I was fine. I began having deep throbbing headaches and sharp migraines (which I'd never experienced like this) on the right side of my face. I had limited tolerance to light, I couldn't read without blurry or double vision, and I wanted to sleep all of the time. I had vertigo, losses of balance, falls, and kept dropping things unexpectedly. After a couple of months of Physical Therapy, Concussion Therapy, and Occupational Therapy most of my symptoms persisted. It became clear to the Concussion and Occupational therapists that there was a visual component that they were not able to address. My Optometrist gave me a referral to the Minnesota Vision Therapy Center.
During my consultation and initial sessions, my therapist scrapped the surface of what I was experiencing and validated the symptoms with clear explanations of what was happening and why. When I told her that I felt like I was going crazy, she reassured me that what I was going through was not rare, though it is rarely recognized and treated for what it is. I was experiencing a convergence insufficiency stemming from a whiplash concussion; Invisible to most onlookers, and potentially devastating to daily life.
It was easy to work with the staff on scheduling appointments, completing paperwork, and financial resources. The therapists are kind, compassionate, considerate of patient needs/experiences, and engaging. They use a wide range of exercises and tasks to address visual impairments and tailor them to each client. They excel at putting clients at ease while challenging them to reach for the next goal.
I cannot thank the folks at the Minnesota Vision Therapy Center enough. I would not be returning to my career as fully intact without their treatment and support.
The entire team at MVTC is amazing! We had 2 kids go through the 50 week program. Each child received exceptional care that was catered to their individual need. The therapists are top notch & go above & beyond to make vision therapy a fun experience. The therapists also are good about recognizing & celebrating the milestones & accomplishments along the journey.
A couple of years ago, I had a skiing accident which resulted in a concussion. Initially, I thought I would be better in a couple of days, but instead it took more than a year and a half of healing. My symptoms included problems with my vision, sensitivity to light, and dizziness. I tried a number of therapies, and enrolled in a program with a well-known brain injury clinic. However, it wasn't until I started working with Mindy at the Minnesota Vision Therapy Center that I started to notice real improvement. She is an amazing therapist and the entire team at the Minnesota Vision Therapy Center is committed to helping people heal and progress. My improvement was not quick, but it was steady and when I felt discouraged, Mindy always encouraged and inspired me to keep moving forward. I would recommend the Minnesota Vision Therapy Center to anyone who has had a concussion and is having vision issues or dizziness. I know they treat a lot of other vision issues, as well. If you are having vision issues, I recommend giving them a call. I cannot recommend them highly enough! I am now almost 100 percent healed and I believe I will continue to improve with time. I continue to use the strategies and eye exercises provided to me by the Center and I am enjoying my life again.
Our middle son had a real struggle reading and tracking the smart board in his classroom. While his vision tests indicated he didn't need glasses something was clearly in need. It was by mere chance that I ran into a parent whose child went through the program at MVTC and for their child it was life changing to say the least. Most kids and adults go completely undiagnosed their entire lives and never get the help they need to overcome the disconnect with our eyes and brain.
The program takes a level of time commitment and discipline especially for younger kids but the long term results are incredible.
I graduated from Vision Therapy. Vision therapy helps so much and helps so many people. The therapists are amazing people who deeply care about every single patient they treat. If you are thinking about Vision Therapy set up a consultation with them. I can tell you that it does help.
My son had a lot of vision problems and we didn't really know how extensive it was until we took the online assessment. He had trouble tracking on a line, words moved in and out of focus, he had trouble writing, etc. Reading was sooooo difficult for him and he was hating school. The vision therapy took a long time (20 minutes a day for 50 weeks) and was expensive, but his reading is soooooooo much better it is unbelievable. Reading is the foundation for everything and this really helped get him back on track.
