Hattiesburg Clinic Eye Physicians & Surgeons

My son has been going here for 14 years now. Every year he gets new glasses. The staff are very polite and knowledgeable.

I have been seen twice by this clinic since I have been here in Laurel. The first time I had lost vision in my right eye for a spell and needed someone to take a look at if I had any serious issues. Gladly there were none. The second time I went I got a basic eye exam. I mentioned to them that I had eye insurance through my work but did not receive any type of card. (Later I found out after talking to my insurance that they should have been able to look me up in the eyemed system, but they never asked me for anything outside of a card.) So I just received my bill and it is for the entire amount of the visit. I found after making a few calls that they billed my medical insurance and not my vision insurance. I just wanted to share the terrible service that I received the first time calling the billing department and was told that they did not do that thing, and I would have to talk to the actual clinic in Laurel, who were of course not answering the phone, so she left a message and I am still waiting to hear back. I just wanted to let people know to be cautious in going here because they will easily bill you for the entire visit without regards to anything. I am paying my bill, which I am sure is the only thing they care about, but I wanted to warn others so they do not get stuck like I did. I will be looking around for a more competent vision provider.

This rating is for ophthalmology only. The rest of the clinic has been outstanding. So have they for the last 10 years. It was when I experienced excruciating head and left eye pain that they kicked me to the curb. I am a retired 100 percent service-connected disabled veteran who recently went to them after 5 days of head and eye pain. On the 5th day, my left eye relocated itself to the far left side of the socket. Everything in my vision became double. They told me it was temporary and may correct itself in a month or 2 or 3 but refused to give me anything for the pain. They instead said I should go see my Primary care provider for that. I thought speciality doctors were supposed to diagnosis the problem and prescribe needed medications to treat you. I complained to Admin and their boss stood up for the doctors and the policy. The doctor told me two medications that could help but she said she wouldn't write a script for them. UMMC has since diagnosed me with Cranial third nerve palsy. I can only see with one eye. But they are treating me with medications. I think the policy in this particular department at Hattiesburg Clinic is absurd. To all my veteran brothers and sisters as well as friends and family. I suggest you go elsewhere for ophthalmology care and ask them up front if you have eye pain and associated severe headaches, will they prescribe needed medications. If not, keep looking.
