Handy Dewey a OD

If I could give a zero I would. I called to schedule an appointment a week prior to my actual appointment date. When I get there I see a sign that they have moved. The lady didn't tell me that over the phone. My appointment was at 11. By the time I made it to the new location, which wasn't that far, I was told that my appointment was moved to 10:30. No one asked me was the time change ok to move and it was not. When I scheduled my appointment the lady asked me for my insurance and I gave it to her. I also informed her it's the same as my husband as I did not have the policy number handy but knew of the company. When I got there I was told the insurance was no longer accepted there. I don't know why this wasn't informed to me over the phone so that I could have found another provider, but instead they had me to waste gas and time and told me once I got there. Not to mention the lady at the desk tried to put blame on me for a job that they are paid to do. They need better training, because this is not the first time I've had an issue with the workers there. I only stuck around because I like my optometrist. He's very nice and professional but his office staff needs to go.

Update 01/02/2020 - Had to return to update as since I have been back I found some issues since last couple of visits. Dr. Handy is still an amazing doctor and a nice staff however the facilities he is on have declined so much. On my last visit they took me back to check my eyes to a room about the size of a normal bathroom and brought other patients in while i was waiting and tested them there. It may seem prudish but I don't want complete strangers sitting pretty much right next to me as I am getting examined. The wait was very long to see the doctor as well. I don't think they will ever move so unfortunately I don't think I will be returning as I just don't feel comfortable there anymore. I've been a patient of Dr. Handy for many years. Very skilled and professional person and very personable and kind staff. Schedule appointments well in advance as they are very busy which as a patient of his from his early days I am very happy to see he still keeps as busy as it is a sign of his skill and patient satisfaction. My only problem is his location which is not really a problem of his rather the declining city around him. Other than that world class doctor all around.

Super nice, professional, intelligent, and humbled group of people. They work together well because I had a very positive experience from making my first appointment to receiving my exam and everything else in between, right down to the maintenance person.

Never take a "work in" appointment because you won't be worked "in" You will actually be THE end. Meaning if you've been there since 8, even the 11 o'clock appointments will be serviced before you. I'm an office manager for a very busy clinic as well and we do not treat ANY of our patients this way, "worked in" or "walked in!"

I have a immediate medical emergency. Since Dr. unHandy's office was nearby and was a insurance provider, I went there first. The waiting room was totally empty. I had hoped that I could be worked in. I have only today to get this done. The problem is I am white. The entire office staff is not. They told me to go somewhere else. I would highly recommend this office if you are black. They'll get you right on in there. Caucasian? Best of luck to you.

Scheduled my kids appointments for 12:45 knowing they are closed for lunch from 12-1! We've never had a problem with them until now. My kids have gone there for years.

Love Dr Handy & his team, they are very professional, timely, & exceptional! My entire family sees him. Don't be fooled by the location this place upholds quality & professionalism.

I gave a 2 because of the black mean and hateful lady the other people are nice and caring I suppose to be going back but nope I waited in the hall to get my glasses where they were brought to me in a bag the lady that did my eye xam was amazing this is why after so many years ago I didn't come back others people I know said the same thing thank you but no thanks a waste of my time and while I was waiting in the hallway Dr handy was also there he asked was I being helped and I mentioned some things to him this is nothing towards Dr handy much love to you
