The Eye Care & Surgery Center, Warren, NJ has gone out of their way to hire the WORST front desk staff i have ever encountered! (especially the short haired woman closest to the door). For 3 days No staff member ever picked up a phone or returned a call.
Dr. Shah seem like a nice enough person but talked to me like she was selling used cars. Dr. Shah did NOT present all the options available to me regarding my Cataract surgery. Her plan was to do both eyes even though my left eye vision was WNL and very mild at best. When i asked WHY do the good eye the reply was "It MIGHT get bad later" so we going to both 2 weeks apart. My thoughts are fon't fix something till its broke... I don't know about their staff at the Westfield office but I would avoid the Warren office 100%. I give the doctor 3 1/2 stars and the FRONT DESK STAFF A BIG FAT ZERO! In all fairness the young man that actually did the majority of my tests was wondeful, pleasant and prfessional but NOT an optometrist or Doctor of any kind, GO ANYWHERE ELSE!
DO BUSINESS AT YOUR OWN RISK WITH THIS CRUEL, INHUMANE PLACE!!!
My mother is a 70-year-old with "Advanced Parkinson's Disease" who just had 'knee replacement surgery' and is losing her vision in both eyes and requested 'cataract surgery', since her glasses do not work anymore.
The first apt lasted close to 3 hours, and the staff left my mother waiting in a room, where she was forgotten about after her eye exam by Dr. Shah, who treated my mother fairly.
However, the staff, spoke to my mother in a condescending manner as she was a small child, which offended her when she asked why she had to wait that long. She told me that day, this place reminds me of a cattle place.
Finally, they brought us to the surgical schedule coordinator named "Crystal", who had no client etiquette or compassion... Crystal rushed the process and had my mother sign papers without explaining the surgery or what she was signing.
We went back the next week for eye measurements, which went fine, and that apt. lasted less than 1 hour.
She was given a schedule of 6 additional appointments in 2 weeks with BACK-to-BACK SURGERY on both eyes, which potentially is detrimental to her health due to her pre-existing medical conditions. Then a few days, later a 7th apt.
I called the office to explain my mother had PT appointments for her knee on some of those days and has a personal assistant to help her function at home, and to please give us a week or 2 between eye surgeries to accommodate her other appointments and serious medical conditions. They REFUSED and told my mother and ignored our concerns about her schedule and said, "THIS IS THE WAY WE DO THINGS, SORRY!" The lady Crystal was not professional or nice at all on the phone.
We had to reluctantly cancel the surgery, and my mother was in tears over the way she was treated and all the time that was lost. I promised my mother we would get her vision back in a different place.
Had a GREAT experience here for my mom's cataract surgery. Staff was very attentive and Dr. Shah made the whole process super easy, clear, and with patience. Thank you!!
First I think the doctors were good. But unfortunately I had an issue that I think warrants a review.
On my 2nd visit there they told me since i did not have a referal I could not be seen. I asked if anything can be done. And I was told no. I almost broke into tears. I was having an issue in my eye that if untreated / unmedicated can lead to blindness. Their response was unacceptable in my opinion. With my past eye medical staff they would pull up my reason for being there - see that it is an urgent matter and try to work with me. I believe this office could have offered to charge me fully. I would gladly pay whatever at that moment since I was scared of losing my vision. Or they could have spoken to someone else if needed to see what could be done but that didnt happen. The ladies were very nice - dont get me wrong but the practice is not flexible. I was able to get the referral sent over since it had been requested already and I saw the dr. On my next visit the issue was now that my referral had the wrong doctor name (i was scheduled with a different doctor). Similarly I was told I could not proceed without a referral for the correct doctor. What they failed to do - was tell me that the doctor that i did have a referral for was in another office today and they failed to check if i could be seen there. It just seemed rigid and again - i was at risk of losing my vision. Nice staff and good doctors but the denial process needs some work. Assess risk, assess options - work with your patient. Take my money. Take it all. Just let me get treated. I dont think this is a reflection of the people there but just the process.
I've had a pleasant experience with the doctor. The person who handles the refills and prior authorizations for medications is horrible. I left multiple messages over a 2 week span requesting a prior authorization be filled out for a medication that I need. I also requested that someone call me back after it was completed. The person never bothered to fill out the prior authorization or call me back. I only received a call back after I requested to speak to the office manager. No reasonable explanation was given as to why no one bothered to fill out the prior authorization forms or call me back.
Hours listed are 9-5, called for 1/2 hour straight 4:30-5, no answer. You should really change your hours if you intend on not answering. I'll be calling elsewhere on Monday.
I have been seeing Dr. Shah for 6 months, and she's patient, friendly, and has helped so much with the healing of my cornea. The staff is very nice. I highly recommend this practice.
Front staff and optician assistant very nice, attentive and welcoming but disappointed with Dr.Shah; I went to see her for chronic uveitis that I have been experiencing for the last 8 months and she was very dismissive, condescending and overall not interested in helping me get some resolution! I went to her after being referred to a uveitis specialist by my optometrist that diagnosed me and has been treating me for the uveitis since June 2023 and the first thing out of Dr. Shah's mouth was "and you got this from an optometrist" (condescending) long story short she wasn't able to help me and told me to come when I have a flare up to see what it is because uveitis is such a generalized condition and was sent on my way, I felt so defeated after I left there; I drove 45 minutes to see her and what a waste of time. If you are looking/ needing a uveitis specialist look elsewhere
