Beware- Mistakenly though I was eligible for my eye insurance as my vision I felt had deteriorated and my rx on file at 1800 Contacts had expired. I made an appointment here at Frio Eyecare. They left a message to remind me of the appointment, then hours later called again and I tried to listen to message but my phone glitched on me and no message was heard and it said can't transcribe message the night before the appointment. I thought they were calling again to remind me bc I wasn't able to answer when they called the first time. I went to appointment and all good, they took my insurance card scanned it, no mention of no insurance coverage. I looked at frames.. saw the doctor, we talked about bifocal contacts, possibly monovision but for now bc contacts are taking longer stick with distance only contacts. At end they tell me my insurance won't pay for any of it, not eligible yet. I ask about medically billing as I came on saying my eyes deteriorated they said bc I got the contact lens exam and had no issues with my eyes m they couldn't do it. I was not happy at this point I ask for my RX for contacts as it wasn't included with the other rx I was handed. When I get home I realize the contact rx isn't correct. I had called previously on way home and asked the Dr. to call me back bc I was confused why the receptionist would not have said your insurance isn't eligible yet when I checked in. I was also not given the dilation drops, but had I known I was paying for it all out of pocket I would have taken them to get what I paid for. I understood the reason she could not bill medically and I told the receptionist that. I thought when she calls me back I will ask about a new or correct RX for contacts. Water under the bridge. Well by this afternoon I had not heard from her so I called again to be told the doctor is busy today and was busy yesterday so she could share the message but couldn't guarantee a call back, bc she isn't the doctor (her exact words) . I get a call like 15 minutes later same girl, saying she shared my concern w/ doctor and it is the correct rx, that eyes change and she talked to doctor and it is correct. I said how can my glasses RX be so different and again told by the girl that answers the phone that contacts bc they are close to your eyes can be different rx than glasses. What??? I also asked again why the front desk never informed me of the ineligible insurance to be told it's not our responsibility the call is a courtesy call. Ok but be sure your patients know this ahead of time. Most doctors won't see patients if the insurance won't cover it. They tried 1x I didn't get the message yes most likely due to my phone, but come on.. is this how a business operates, then the public should know. The worst part is I get another call from again, not the doctor, but the girl who answers phones, saying the doctor looked at the wrong rx it was an old monovision rx .. mind you I had not been there in a few years. Why are they looking at old rx when I just had a new exam?? So I paid $260 for an exam and a contact lens exam to have the doctor use an old rx? Was a contact lens exam even performed ?? I told the girl I was going to check the fact m that she said glasses and contacts won't be same or even close sometimes with an ophthalmologist friend of mine, which I am sure spurred the doc to double check my RX Very unprofessional on many levels, including the doctor having her staff do her dirty work. I would have happily paid the no show fee and made a new appointment but I am sure out of pocket nets more money than insurance pays out. I am not one to write a review for this type of thing but this was above and beyond unprofessional. We shall see if she mails my new RX in a timely fashion as I am guessing based on this experience that she won't.

Everyone there was kind and welcoming. Appreciate all the care that was taken in helping me. Especially thankful to the person who helped me pick out my glasses she never made me feel rushed. And I love my glasses.

I went to Dr. Frio office, explained past issues with my eye and what was going on with my eye now. She examined my eye knowing that if what I told her was going it was not within her scope of ability. The right thing to do would have been to tell me this rather than do the exam and charge me for it. I told her I had no insurance. Beware , thevies come in all professions!

Very professional, nice and clean. Very good at what they do. Would recommend.
