I am new to wearing glasses as my eyesight went bad last year, so today was my 2nd eyeglasses exam ever and my 1st contact lenses exam (1st eyeglasses was last year at diff doctor).
I really liked everyone I encountered at this location! The doctor was great! Very informative and patient so I def recommend coming here for exams.
The receptionist was quick to find my insurance info, she checked that I had a separate co-pay for contact exam and let me know the price before the exam.
Emmanuel was awesome! He did my initial scans and stuff with eye ultrasound and blinking lights. His bright attitude made the experience a lot less daunting than my previous doc's place.
The contact lens teacher did an amazing job teaching me how to put in and take out my contacts. She demo'ed many times and was very encouraging. I would be so lost without her tips!
After everything I was trying on different lenses with the sales associate at the counter and he was great too! He showed me some in my insurance price range and also meta glasses (I asked) but I didn't end up buying anything today and they didn't push.
Unfortunately, I have to add my voice to dissatisfied clients. As many others have noted, my experience with the Dr. was positive. This poor review is about deceptive sales practices. Upon reading the multiple generic/stock responses from Cohen's stating they are "concerned by comments about pricing and insurance communication." I'm not convinced this will make a difference, but am compelled to warn others. My vision insurance provides for a contact lens exam with $25 Copay which includes a year supply of "plan" contact lenses in lieu of glasses. Upon check-in I was charged $75. Even though I attempted to question/dispute it (and coincidentally I could not bring up my insurance's benefits web page)! The associate gave me an explanation that made no sense. After, the exam another associate brings out a price list, which he took several minutes calculating in his head. He then told me my contacts would be $800. I wasn't going to go back and forth anymore, I just excused myself and left. I went to another provider and ordered my contacts with no surprises.
I have mixed feelings about my experience. On the one hand, my eye exam was great and the folks doing it did a great job explaining what they test or machine was for (shout out to Emmanuel who was really excellent with the explanations). The optometrist was professional and kind. There was a bit of a wait (I was seen at 1 but my appointment was for 12:30), but it's the holidays so I know they're crowded (and Emmanuel checked it with every customer to let them know when they were next).
On the other hand, the man at the counter selling my frames was A LOT. He only showed me expensive frames (when I asked to see cheaper ones, he just stared at me). He kept trying to upsell me on a "limited time" buy one get one half off deal (that same deal existed when I bought my glasses THREE YEARS AGO). When I told him no and it was too expensive, he tried to push a payment plan I didn't want (I in fact had been on that payment plan at a different location; they put my information in incorrectly which made it nearly impossible to pay my bill and it took me nearly a year to fix and get my credit score corrected). Even after I told him I wasn't interested in two pairs of glasses, he kept proceeding like I had agreed and I literally had to stop him before he ran my card. In the end I bought a pair of glasses I liked but were somewhat out of my budget because I was tired of dealing with him. Honestly, I thought I was there to buy a medical device not to fight a dude with the tact and guile of a used car salesman.
I've gone to different Cohen's across the city over the decades, but at this point I'm ready to find a private practice if it means I won't be pressured into buying glasses hundreds of dollars over what I said I wanted to spend. It should not take this much energy to see!
Would not go again. The doctor is honestly excellent. However, the salesperson for glasses was a nightmare. He focused on trying to sell me one of the most expensive frames in the store instead of listening to my needs and budget. Despite knowing how poor my eyesight is, and after I explained that I mostly wear contacts and do not need an expensive frame, he told me that I should just not buy glasses at all. This was especially inappropriate given that he knew I still need glasses when I am not wearing contacts.
It was an absolutely horrible experience. No one deserves to be treated with such a condescending and snobby attitude when purchasing something related to their wellbeing. I would return for the doctor only if I were allowed to get my prescription and purchase glasses elsewhere.
My customer service with Amonios was great. He took time and made sure I was comfortable with my glasses, I love it . He has patience and a great listener. I was comfortable, I would recommend my friends and family.
Friendly and personal staff. They really prioritize your well being every step of the way. I love my new eyewear. Super stylish!!
Before the exam, I kindly informed the person who identified himself as a the manager to confirm that my plan provided an annual free pair of glasses and annual free exam (which I already knew).
Here's the surprise.
After the exam, the same manager claimed that my prescription required I pay for special lenses that were not eligible per the annual free pair of glasses program at the cost of a few hundred dollars.
I found another eyeglasses shop (not Cohen's) where I was able to get the annual exam and annual pair of glasses for free. They told me that this Cohen's manager had clearly lied to me.
I have been going to Cohen's since I was a kid for eye exams and glasses so I am very familiar with the process. This was my first time coming to this location and I had a great experience. Everyone that I interacted with was polite and helpful in meeting my concerns, from the people at the front desk, the lab technician, the doctor and even the custodian.
I arrived earlier than my scheduled appointment but was able to go straight into my eye exam. Emmanuel was very nice and helped calm me down while running through the eye tests. Dr. Daniel saw me quickly after that and took his time explaining eye health and addressing my concerns. I have been wearing glasses since I was 6, so I am quite familiar with how my vision is compared to someone with clear vision, but it was nice to have the lab tech and doctor explain how vision is different for everyone.
Finally, I went to choose a pair of glasses at the front. I am really bad with choosing just 1 thing that I will have for a while if there are many options because it can get overwhelming, but Amonios at the front was very patient and showed me a bunch of glasses that seemed like a good fit for me until I decided on 2 pairs (there was a promotion). Even though I took about an hour to choose he was energetic and gave me the time I needed to look around and try on what I might like. I am still waiting on my glasses since I just had the appointment late Thursday afternoon (2 days ago), but I'm sure they'll be just fine.
