I had an excellent experience with Dr. Rachel Du at my recent eye appointment. From the moment I arrived, the entire visit felt organized and welcoming. Dr. Du was incredibly thorough during the exam, taking the time to carefully evaluate every aspect of my eye health and clearly explain what she was doing along the way.
What stood out most was how professional and attentive she was. She listened carefully to my concerns, answered all of my questions in detail, and made sure I fully understood my options. I never felt rushed--she was patient, kind, and genuinely caring throughout the entire appointment.
It's clear that Dr. Du is highly knowledgeable and truly dedicated to her patients. I left feeling confident in my care and grateful to have found such a thoughtful and skilled eye doctor. I highly recommend Dr. Du to anyone looking for exceptional, compassionate eye care.
I had such a great experience at Manhattan Vision Associates.
I saw Dr. Rachel Du (2/19/2026) and she was incredible! She was thorough, patient, and explained everything step by step in a way that was easy to understand, even though I was running on very little sleep that day lol. I truly appreciated that.
I actually booked with them just the day before through Zocdoc.com because my work schedule changes last minute all the time, and they were so accommodating. Kevin greeted me with a warm smile and was so friendly and personable. He even came around the desk to hand me my paperwork and explain it clearly.
Solange, the ophth tech, was wonderful. The second I saw her I asked how long I would be there since I had work soon, and she gave me an accurate timeframe of about 25 minutes max. She was completely on point. I was in and out smoothly.
In one short visit I got my comprehensive eye exam, my contact lens prescription, time to try on a brand for proper fit and comfort, ordered a three month supply shipped to my home, and Dr. Du completed my online eye exam through the NYC DMV so I can renew my license. All of that in about 20 minutes. I still made it to work 30 minutes early with time for breakfast!
As a millenial I fully embrace AI/tech advancement, butttttt nothing replaces being treated like a real person. The care here felt personal, intentional, and smooth from start to finish. Excellent doctor, excellent team, excellent experience. Highly recommend Manhattan Vision Associates if you want everything handled in one seamless visit.
I've had several very disappointing experiences with Manhattan Vision Associates for the following reasons.
Overcharging / Billing Practices: This office bills for both vision and medical services for what is effectively a standard vision exam. When I questioned how they justify billing both--something often viewed as "double-dipping"--I was told it's because they provide more "comprehensive services" that fall under both categories. After multiple visits, I can confidently say nothing provided went beyond the normal standard of care for a routine vision exam. Advertising and billing these so-called additional services is misleading and results in higher costs for patients. If you schedule an appointment here, be prepared to pay both vision and medical copays despite receiving a basic eye exam.
Service:
When I asked if my old glasses could be re-fitted, the employee assisting me appeared visibly annoyed, as though my request was an inconvenience. To make matters worse, the glasses weren't even cleaned before being handed back--something that should be standard courtesy in an optometry office.
Front Desk / Insurance Handling:
The front desk experience was the most frustrating part of all. Staff were unwilling to communicate with my insurance and demonstrated a poor understanding of how vision coverage works. Rather than helping patients understand or maximize their benefits, the focus seemed to be almost entirely on billing and collecting payment as quickly as possible.
Overall:
Between questionable billing practices, poor customer service, and unhelpful front desk staff, this office prioritizes revenue over patient care. I would strongly recommend avoiding this practice if you value transparency, professionalism, and patient-centered service.
If you really want to feel you are on top of your eye sight, this is the place. All the latest screening innovation. Super pro doctors. And the front desk keeps things organized. Nice environment to get your frames and prescriptions too. (like I did) Just had my annual yesterday. It feels so good to take care of your eyes.
Manhattan Vision Associates &:Dr Selenow have been my eye care go to for more than 28 years. I've referred many people, all as satisfied as me.
It's a private practice totally invested in you & your eye health. They have the most current equipment plus a research department.
Then there's Dr Selenow himself: caring, thorough, attentive, creative. I've had numerous eye issues. He listens to me, works out solutions, knows my history. Eyes age: he anticipates what's next. His recommendations for specialists, ie retinologist, etc, are excellent.
This was at least my third visit. I'm always grateful for the level of attention to detail, professionalism, and kindness they show here. I have felt well cared for every time, and have seen a plethora of optometrists here due to changing insurance providers. My eyes are quite sensitive and other practitioners have complained about it in the past; no one here has shown anything but patience toward me.
Pleasant, professional staff. However, I was told the visit would be $120 and 20 minutes I was presented with a $250 bill without an explanation for the increased charge. I was informed that I would receive a detailed report via email but only received an invitation to rate my visit.
Dr. Due was great, but I am starting to feel like eye doctors are becoming the new dentists or mechanics when it comes to unexpected charges. During my visit, no one informed me that diagnostic testing would be performed or that it would not be covered by my vision insurance. That lack of transparency was frustrating. Lesson learned to ask more questions upfront, but unfortunately I will not be returning or recommending the practice.
