Eyes First Vision Center

Had an eye emergency on a Saturday morning and was an hour and a half from home. Called a few places before this one and even though they had hours, they wouldn't see me even after explaining my vision was being affected. This was the third place I called and they told me to come right over, what a relief! The staff was friendly and pleasant. The doctor was wonderful! He was thorough and had a great personality. He explained things without rushing, eased my mind and gave me a very thorough exam. Got a prescription and was on my way. I would use them again and again!

There was no wait - I actually was taken back before my appointment time. The front end staff, opthamologist and optometrist were friendly, courteous and very professional. The optometrist actually helped me find great frames that I had overlooked. He presented all lens options with no sales pressure and all applicable insurance info. I have had glasses now for almost twenty years It was the first time I had tried Eyes First, and I definitely will be a repeat customer.

This place has gone down hill in the last couple of years. I had an appointment over the summer due to migraines from my vision changing. They never explained that the appointment would not be able to actually up date my prescription for new glasses and contacts because it was "medical". Literally knew why I was coming in and said nothing beforehand. And the Dr. Said "your vision didn't really change any way..." Then finally was able to schedule a "vision" appointment and they failed to ensure I was aware they did not renew the contact with my insurance company so I wasted my time traveling here just for my prescription and no glasses or contacts, how is that helpful?? Oh, and my vision changed more than 2 points in BOTH EYES. I had to pay the copay here and then at another eye doctor just to get glasses. Now they won't confirm my prescription for contacts. 0/10 would never recommend

The first time I gave a shout-out to an eye doctor, but Dean Nickolas Shissias, OD deserves it, as well as their staff. Dr. Shissias is relaxed, friendly and knowledgeable, teaching me things I never knew about eye care. Very good doc. When it was time to choose glasses, the assistant was exceedingly patient, while I tried on a ton of glasses, giving just the right feedback.

I have used Eyes First for many many years and always have been happy with both the Optometrist and the employees. In the past, the employees would help me choose a frame and make suggestions and recommendations. I would often buy prescription sunglasses, reading glasses as well as daily glasses. My last experience I felt as if they felt bothered by my asking for help. There were no other customers and was left to find my own frames. My doctor had specifically ordered non line bifocals and I was told they were transitionals over and over. They gladly took my money, then the wait..weeks. I came in and tried the glasses on and they were alittle loose. The employee never saw them on me, he took them and melted and broke the frame. It was like ooops. He tried to find other glasses that would work, I might have tried another store. I asked whether I was going to get some compensation. I said I needed these mailed to me as I would be out of the area for several weeks. When I voiced a complaint with the Manager never did I hear "We are sorry" I heard these things happen, he's really good. I am not sure who had trained these folks on Customer Service. Then the wait again, weeks and weeks..no glasses, no phone call. I was ready to call my credit card to cancel this. I did leave a message asking why my glasses were not mailed as promised. The Manager called, left a sarcastic message and I finally received my glasses. This used to be a customer oriented business, they took time and attention with each customer. After 15+ years, I will never return to this place. One of the worst experiences. I will be contacting the Corporate Headquarters as well. Go to Walmart, you will get personalized attention there.

I recently relocated to Manahawkin and experienced an eye emergency. The office staff at Eye's First was friendly and gave me an immediate appointment. I am very grateful for fitting me in so quickly although I was not a patient. Dr. Meltzer's instructions and explanation of my condition were very helpful, as well.

I picked up my pair of glasses this week and wore them for 2 days before the plastic nose piece broke right off while I was wearing them. I went on Saturday to get them fixed and was told that they can't fix them since the doctor left for the day. I think that that is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard. It is not brain surgery, it is just using a screwdriver. They then had the nerve to tell me to come back on Monday or go and buy a repair kit. Why are they even there if they can't do anything without a doctor present? I went to bjs optical right next door and asked if they can help me. The guy there gave me new nose pieces right away without the presence of a doctor, for no charge. I am glad he was allowed to use a screwdriver without needing supervision.

Nice glasses place. Friendly, knowledgeable, attentive employees, clean customer area, fast turnaround time, reasonably priced. I have never had a bad experience at Eyes First Manahawkin. I trust my eyes to Eyes First. You should too.
