5 thumbs up.....I was on vacation, staying in West Jefferson, when I began having trouble with my eyes....burning, couldn't keep them open and very sensitive to light. Called one place and described my symptoms and their answer was "we do not take new patients ". Called Western Carolina and the receptionist LISTENED to me and I had an appointment within an hour. The staff was extremely courteous and made the visit very pleasant. Dr. Davis and Ashley were professional and couldn't seem to do enough for me. I was back in the office the next morning, at Dr. Davis' insistence, so that she could check my eyes and see that they were improving since I was leaving that day. If "top-shelf" courtesy and professionalism are not your thing, go somewhere else!

I had my first visit at WCEA today and I could not be more pleased. The previous practice I was going too, I would literally be at my appt for 3 hours. This was always just a yearly check and I have no major issues. I seen Dr Lanier today and she was very helpful and so pleasant! I'm very pleased to know that I have options to try other contacts as I have battled with significant dry eyes for years. I have been told there wasn't any other options for me and they recommended prescription eye drops which were $400. I am excited to say I will be a permanent patient at WCEA.

I usually do not like to write negative reviews, but I want others who my need eye care to note our experience. My wife had an appointment and from beginning to end it was a negative time for her and for me. The staff was downright unpleasant and rude. They only time I saw any enjoyment by the staff was when they forced patients, who aren't even sick, to wear ridiculous, useless, unsterile and unhygienic masks that all businesses everywhere else do not require. They gave my wife, who was there for another medical reason an unwanted, unwarranted eye exam and was charged for it. There was supposed to be a follow up, but nobody ever called. My wife called twice, and nobody wanted to help. I fully DO NOT recommend this establishment for any eye care because they don't care.

I've never enjoyed my time getting my eyes checked as much as I have here today. All of my interactions with staff were fantastic. They were courteous, friendly, and helpful. Not only did they listen, they took the time to answer my questions and explain the results of my eye exam in an easy to understand way. By far the best experience I've had for vision and glasses.

My first experience with WCEA last year was good. Nothing spectacular, but nothing bad either. My visit today was subpar. I scheduled this appointment 6 months ago and was never told it'd be a "medical" exam instead of "vision." Upon check in, I was asked for my medical insurance card and was simply told they aren't in network with my medical insurance. No biggie, since I'm just there for an eye exam anyways.. After waiting 45 minutes after my appointment time (and arriving 15 minutes early, as requested), I finally got called back. The opthalmologist was great. She apologized for the delay and was quick to do the initial check up. Then I sat and waited half an hour for the doctor. Upon check out, I was told I'd have to pay $120 but they could give me an itemized bill to file with my insurance. I have previously worked at a medical office and we would NEVER have let a scheduled patient get to check in without verifying insurance eligibility... And we definitely wouldn't have let them make it all the way to check out before informing them of a $100+ bill. It is absurd to me that I wasn't informed sooner that the exam wouldn't fall under my vision insurance or that I'd be expecting a $120 bill at the end of my exam. Yikes.

My experience at WECA West Jefferson office is quite unlike the two recent negative reviews. I had an infected eyelid and was able to be seen here. My normal WECA office is the Boone office and they had no available slots. Everyone was professional, helpful and courteous. I was prescribed an antibiotic and was informed via text that it was ready to be picked as I was returning to my home. I'm actually considering making this location my WECA office. Drive time from my home is the same and I won't have to deal with Boone/App State "traffic".

Very pleased with the service received here. Very thorough with the exam. I recently got a prescription filled and was moving out of the area. My glasses did not arrive until after I moved. They sent the glasses to me and the prescription is perfect. I was worried as I wear progressive lenses but they are absolutely perfect. I am disappointed that I am no longer in the area because their service is outstanding!

Called the office and they said they are taking new patients. I'm out of contacts and my eye director is retiring and they said they couldn't get me in for eight months. If you need an eye doctor you will have to find somewhere else.
