You have to pay for parking...even with the voucher, that's just for a discount. Getting an exam is very slow. From getting seated to getting somebody to do your exam. It gets excused as it's because a student is giving you the exam before an actual optometrist looks things over, you know, so you do your community deed and help train the future. So, you're being used as a guinea pig for training others, which again, feels righteous on its own, but you'd think you'd get a discount...NOPE! It's a ripoff since OSU charges these students plenty and they're both, making money off of you and them.
So, after you leave...I can't speak of your possible particular experience, however, I ordered my glasses with all the possible choices out there: polycarbonate, antiglare, photochromization and whatever else. After a couple of months I noticed that the rim on one of my eyeglasses started becoming blurry when I try to see through it. It looked as if the layers of film they put on starting coming apart.
All in all:
Price: Expensive
Speed: Slow
Quality: Subpar
Terrible. You'll be better off finding anywhere else in Columbus to help you.
I've been wearing glasses since 4th grade and I received the worst pair I've ever had last week. When I called back about having them checked, I was told to keep wearing them longer during the adjustment period. This resulted in eye strain to the point where my left eyelid became swollen, red, extremely painful to the touch (even to blink) and I would wake up with yellow discharges. My vision stayed blurry, and when I called back again, I was told that I still wouldn't be able to see an actual doctor-- only another student. Even in my condition.
This has completely thrown my life off course seeing as how the pain prevented me from normal activities, proper sleep, made working difficult, and my appearance caused me to cancel social activities. Not to mention that I paid out of pocket for frames that made my vision worse-- from an exam conducted by a student. The actual doctor barely stopped by.
As a lifelong Buckeye (alum, former student-athlete, and current employee), I expected much more from an institution connected to OSU. I'm usually so proud of everything Buckeye-related, but this is extremely disappointing and frustrating and makes me question if a reputable authority is actually supervising everything. Read the other negative reviews below for confirmation. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see an optometry malpractice lawsuit pop up for this place.
Save yourself the trouble (and money) and try somewhere else that accepts your insurance.
I had a wonderful experience with the optometry department and will definitely be back. From start to end the level of care was top-notch. All the questions I had were answered thoroughly. Dr Pawlikowski was great and I enjoyed watching her work together with the Optometry students. Leave yourself some extra time to get yourself parked in the parking garage or find a lucky street spot. They had a wide selection of frame to choose from at the store on the first floor.
Dr. Toole and his second year student Samantha where amazing, knowledgeable, friendly and easy to talk with and discuss concerns with. Highly recommend OSU Optometry
My appointment got canceled with no communication via phone, email, nothing. When I got there the registration employee did not even know how or why this happened. (She tried her best to try and help me out.) The manager was not available to speak at the moment and the only option I had was to schedule a for a different time a month later.
This is a bit frustrating especially as a student at OSU with a busy schedule. This place does not prioritize patients having very very poor communication skills! I drove all the way over from Gahanna in the snow just for this appointment....
Got the most thorough eye exam I've ever received here and feel very confident about my prescription. Everyone, from the reception staff, optometry students, and faculty were so kind, helpful and friendly. Special shoutout to Kim who helped me reschedule without a hitch!
Online clinic hours are listed until 6pm some days but no appointments are accepted any later than 4:10pm. There is no communication of this online and it even allows you to set preferred availability to be later than this time on the appointment request. The scheduling team also takes long to get back to you.
Went here for the first time. Got an annual eye exam. The optometry student seemed capable and nice. Felt like the doctor oversaw the student enough that I got good care.
The customer service person at the third floor desk was outstanding. Thanks to her, one of the optometrists determined and showed me the prescriptions of three pairs of my old glasses to help me figure out if it would be worth replacing my old sunglasses and computer fixed length glasses. She did that while I was waiting for someone who was having an exam. It was very kind of her to take the time to help me when I didn't have an appointment. In addition, it's nice to help the students learn. Was going to get my exam at Costco, but Costco doesn't usually dilate your eyes unless you specifically ask them to, and I wanted someone used to dilating eyes who would take the time to give me a thorough exam. The National Eye Institute recommends dilation for patients like me.
Apparently much more expensive than Costco to buy glasses I think, but OSU seems to have a bigger selection of glasses and the optician was nice and helpful.
