The Optometry Clinic at The Ohio State University

This is a student run clinic so expect to take 2-3 hours out of your day to get a simple eye exam. There's no good reason for it to take that long. They do not input medical records through buckMD or mychart. It's taking one to two weeks to get my eyeglass prescription. This SHOULDN't take that long! So I recommend working through lens crafters or an non-OSU clinic to get the appropriate services at a reasonable time.

These folks saved my life. In 2024 I called to make an appointment for an eye exam so I could get new glasses as I was running into things and having headaches. Based on what I was telling them they wanted me to come in as soon as possible but not for a new prescription but to be checked out on there machines. They found that my optic nerve was inflamed and recommended/helped me walk to the emergency department at the hospital which was like a block away. Later that night I got an MRI that showed a massive meningioma tumor in the back of my head which was causing the visual issues, headaches, and inflammation. A few weeks later the meningioma was removed surgically. A month or so later we're doing radiation. Throughout this process I'm working with an eye specialist from the Ohio State Eye and Ear Institute. A year and a half later I'm feeling great with 6 month MRI monitoring checkups. I recently visited this location to get a pair of eyeglasses, and my experience was very disappointing. The staff scheduled for my appointment showed up 10 minutes late, and instead of being assisted by trained professionals, I was served by two students who clearly lacked proper training. They gave me conflicting instructions about where to go for student health insurance, and after wasting my time, I was told I wasn't eligible and had to go back to the original section. When I asked about important details such as the lens index, they responded with multiple "I don't know" answers, with no effort to provide further explanation or refer me to someone more knowledgeable. Who am I supposed to ask if they don't know? Additionally, they didn't offer any options for lenses, but simply selected one for me without explanation and presented the price. Naturally, I declined. What made this even more frustrating is that I observed other customers, particularly older adults, being served by professionals. It felt like I was treated differently just because I'm a student. This lack of professionalism and unequal treatment feels like discrimination, and I find it unacceptable.
