I can't objectively give CVP a 1 star since I've experienced the worst ophthalmologist practice Dayton has to offer, and CVP is certainly a step above that. Still a lackluster and rather bad experience looking back, especially after going to a university to get the treatment I needed. It's like night and day. No complaints about the front desk staff, but a few of the assistants were borderline rude and seemed like they didn't want to be there, like they hate their job. For example, I was there for two visits a month apart. I asked nicely on the second visit if we could forgo the letters test since there was clearly no change in my vision and one of my eyes was in bad shape so it was straining to do. The assistant damn near threatened dismissal if I didn't do the test. It was a jarring moment. Wait times are absurd. I think all my times there I spent no less than two hours each. I actually think the laser jobs the doctor preformed were my fastest appointments, with the examinations I could be sitting in the waiting room for upwards of 45 minutes after dilation. then another half hour in the room. The ophthalmologist I saw is Dr. Wilkes, he is pleasant enough and seems very good at his profession. The treatment for my condition is injections and lasers, and I can barely do needles in my arm let alone eyeballs. He pressed for injections but since that was off the table because they don't have the capability for anesthesia, he lasered my really bad eye and did a great job. He then dismissed me to "as needed patient" since I couldn't do injections consciously, which I understand, but he also wouldn't advise me where I could go to get the injections under anesthesia. To top it off, after I got my first round of injections at the university, which my wife and I had to call around and find for ourselves btw, I was told my right eye would still need some laser work and I could get it done locally where I got my left eye done if possible, to save us a 2 hour trip. I signed a consent form for medical information sharing and all that, but CVP and Dr. Wilkes refused treatment, citing "you didn't follow the doctor's recommendation" over and over, even though I kind of did through a different practice. So for those reasons I can't go higher than 2 stars. If there were halves I'd go 2 1/2 just because Dr. Wilkes is very good, if you don't argue with him about eye injections at least. So for those of you out there like me deathly afraid of needles, just know there are options and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Dr. Wilkes is such an amazing doctor. He is very good at explaining your condition or diagnosis and formulating a treatment plan. Unexpected eye loss is scary on top of hearing medical terms you may not be familiar with. He always is kind, patient, professional, and understanding. He listens and actually cares. He is very good at answering all of my questions. I recommend him for any retinal issues!

I have been a patient of Dr. Wilkes for three years. He is the kindest, most caring and one of the most skilled doctors I have had in the 78 years I have been on this earth. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Wilkes to any of my friends or family members. He's the best!!

I am giving everybody a fair warning, warning warning do not go to this practice. I repeat do not go to this practice!!! There are staff who make an appointment for you with any of their doctors they have in there they ask for your insurance card, they have it on file And they want to assume that the doctor takes your insurance they want to assume that they're going to be covered. My scenario I have medical neutral health insurance. I went there. I had a doctors office visit for myself. I had a stye in my eye check to make sure the doctor is in network. Everything was great. Then I'll go out after I spoke with my doctor and I'll let them know. The scenario of I have a little boy I want him to come and get his eyes checked. He is only nine and I need to have his eyes checked because he has never had a real eye exam. The doctor advise me when you go out to check out just request that they have an appointment scheduled for him for his vision exam with one of our doctors here I said great. I'll go outside. I explained to them the scenario and then receptionist said, or I should say one of the staff because it look like she was a nurse in there as well, she said. I tried calling their billing department what a waste. Rude people at the billing department I called. I was on hold for an hour and 15 minutes before somebody got to me. Finally, she gets to me. She will not let me speak. She keeps interrupting me. She was rude. She was yelling. She almost called me the B word then I requested to speak to a supervisor and she left and said sure thing, and she transferred me straight to the supervisor's voicemail, which guess what it was not even set up to take voicemails because it was full of all the messages that they had. I called back and actually ended up getting a good human being to assist me who advised me that they're going to send the bill back for review I then went to the doctors office to figure out what is going on if I see that this doctor is under my insurance then I go there and they have the audacity to tell me that the doctor is in your network, but they don't bill under the vision coverage. The only bill under medical coverage. I then requested to speak to a supervisor or a manager. He had the nerve to tell me well. Let me see if I can get a hold of somebody he call speak to somebody by the name Angela I believe if I'm not mistaken and she wouldn't come out to speak to me because she was supposedly in a meeting so she's not in a meeting to answer the call, but she's in a meeting to come outside and speak to me. And then the person proceeded to tell me when I asked if I show you my insurance and you tell me that the Doctor takes my insurance you see I have IMed for my insurance revision and you see I have medical mutual for my health insurance why don't you open your mouth since you know this particular doctor you're scheduling me with does not bill under I met insurance and the gentleman that was assisting me opens his mouth and says to me she probably Assumed that the doctor was in your network and that they will be able to bill me. So what I said back to him was so one of your staff here doesn't know how to do her job so her assumption not verifying her assumption caused me a $439 bill. Again, fair warning do not go to this practice until they're able to train their staff to do the right thing. Also do not try to attempt to call the billing department because you can request for somebody to call you back and you never get a call back. You have been warned

I was a patient here and I had a great eye surgery performed with Dr Schoenberger 8/23 and follow up with Dr Wilkes on 10/23. I had laser surgery in my left eye and they put a gas bubble in my eye after about a month and it dissolved and I was able to see about 95% clearer. My vision is still healing, and it could take several months up to a year for it to heal. The operation didn't take that long. It was very painless during the night I had to sleep on my right side, which I usually do. A year before this was done I had a cataract removed, and my doctor told me that later on I could develop a retinal detachment, as I was one of the unlucky patients. It's a miracle what technology has done for the medical field. I feel so lucky to have my eyesight back. You will love these two doctors they're very professional very courteous nice nice personality. My mother also went to Dr Schoenberger which a performs eye injections in her eyes every month every other month I forget because she's got macular degeneration and if it wasn't for the shots she would probably be blind it's a miracle she can still see and my sister she goes to another doctor and she has to have shots in her eyes too so it runs in the family. I just hope I don't develop it because I'm going on 69 years old and my mothers going on 93 years old, it's just a miracle she still living. I want to think this wonderful staff for other professional skills that are making hundreds of people healthy to able to see. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I have seen both doctors... Dr.Wilkes and Dr Buerk.... And the 1 star goes to Dr.Buerk. rude, short and very dismissive concerning the issues I was having with my eye... I would not recommend to my worst enemy.... Dr.Wilkes... 5 stars... Very professional, nice, and compassionate... Excellent surgeon... Highly recommend...

Plan to be there for awhile. Bring a lunch. Or a book or make sure you have a fully charged phone. If you have a companion with you, let them know not to make plans for at least 3 hours after the time of the appointment. I'm not exaggerating. If your appointment is at 10, you won't get called back till 11. Then you get a false sense of "oh good, finally my turn" and you get your hopes shot down because they are just taking pictures of your eyes and then having you return to the waiting room. Where you find that your seat has been taken and the waiting room is always full. So much for social distancing. Dr Wilkes is a good Dr but the wait times are outrageous. I'm watching every person leave with a growl on their face and almost running out the door. I do not recommend CVP Centerville. Unless you don't have a life and can waste a whole day here.
