Allegheny Eye Associates, Dr. John M. Shields

My eye doctor retired, and I wasn't thrilled with his replacement company doctors. Someone suggested Dr. Shields. It took about 3 weeks to get an appointment. He is a younger doctor, which I liked. He reviewed my records, talked to me about my eye health, had photos done and brought the photos up on a TV screen so I could see them, then took the time to explain them to me. He gave me the usual tests and exam and provided me options. His assistant, Crissy, helped me choose frames and I purchased my glasses. I was truly happy with both Dr. Shields' care and that of his assistant. I have insurance so I cannot say what his prices are without insurance, but I was so pleased and highly recommend him to anyone and, in fact, have already recommended him to several people.

I absolutely love everyone here! I made an appointment a few years ago to have my eyes and my kids eyes checked and we never had to go back because our eyes were fine. Then recently I had an emergency with my eye and he took me that day! Every appointment I had, I never had to wait long at all even when they didn't have openings and had to squeeze me in. Dr. Shields even saved me hundreds of dollars on one of my prescriptions by printing and coupon code to give to the pharmacy to drop the price over $400! He took the time to explain everything to me and never made me feel rushed. The staff is so very nice and personable, especially Cheryl (I think that was her name) she always asked how I was feeling, always happy and smiling, and couldn't be nicer!!!! I'm so thankful for everyone here for helping me!!!!

I cannot say enough good things about this practice! My whole family has been going to Allegheny Eye Assoc. for years and today I woke up in a panic with severe eye pain and called them right away. Cheryl answered the phone and immediately calmed me down, scheduled me a same day apt, and made me feel so much better before even going into the office. Dr. Shields was able to diagnose the problem within a few minutes of the exam. He explained the problem/medications in detail, answered all of my questions clearly and made sure I was comfortable. I always feel welcomed and believe the staff genuinely cares about each patient. I never feel rushed or unheard during my visits. Dr. Shields along with the rest of the staff are both extremely professional and personable and I am very grateful!

Dr. Shields is an amazing doctor; very professional and personable. He takes the time to explain questions as they come up. His staff takes great care to assist with contacts and lenses fittings, and pretty much any concern a patient might have. The office is clean and comfortable and welcoming.

Staff is very nice and attentive, thank you. Dr. Shields is simply the pillar of what a Doctor should strive to be. My experience with him lasted 3 appointments and about 10 days and was a medical issue. Every explanation and examination was thorough, time was never an issue. He cares about you while he's examining you, pain is not just your problem. He forecasted my well-being through-out the weekend, planned my care accordingly and nailed it! He knows when he doesn't know and planned for that, going unheeded. Dr. Shields located the issue re-solving it pain free. Nothing else could have been done to make me feel more comfortable during the resolution of the issue. Thank you

Dr. Shields is one of the best optometrists around. His staff is always pleasant and helpful. You never feel rushed, and he is always willing to answer questions to make sure you are getting the right product with the best results.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! I have been going to family eye care in New Kensington most of my life. It is AWFUL! I decided to give Dr. Shield a try and he is FANTASTIC! I would recommend him for anyone who wants a great experience! He's nice and he listens. He also cares if you can see which is a nice change from what I was used to! Everyone in the office is great and I look forward to seeing them all again!

Allegheny Eye Associates & Dr. Shields exceeded my expectations! The practice uses modern equipment & Dr. Shields took his time to explain my eye issues. Then his assistant Kim fitted me with great glasses which I look forward to receiving. Above all, Dr. Shields & Kim are friendly & caring.
