I was not expecting my annual appointment to be $80 when I walked in that morning. It's usually a $20 copay but was told that there would be another charge for retinal scanning. I was told the charge could be up to $59 depending on my insurance. In the past I was able to opt out but it's mandatory now no matter the age of the patient. After paying this charge last week I'll have to pay it again for both of my children who have annual appointments this week. The good news is children are $25 for the scan. I wish this was still optional.

I have always loved nittany eye, but during my latest routine visit (after waiting almost 9 months for an appointment), they conducted a Widefield OCT imaging (mandatory they say?) that is not covered by Penn State's insurance for routine exams. I do not have any known condition that should require this test, so I don't understand why they didn't allow me to opt out? This doubled my out of pocket cost from $60 to $119.00. This seems like a cash grabbing scheme by Nittany Eye which has decided to force their patients to pay for unnecessary tests. I will be going elsewhere when my prescription expires.

I have been following with Dr. Brown for years and recently had visit with Dr. Trego as well who was excellent. I just do not like the new policy of 60 dollar mandatory retinal scan which is not covered by insurance.

They have a box in which you can leave unneeded eyeglasses. As one of their customers, they fixed a pair of my glasses where the frame broke and one lens was falling out. Repair was either overnight or took just a few hours, if I could remember. Either way, much appreciated.
