Professional, friendly staff. Didn't have to wait long at all. All my questions were answered. I feel I received the best eye care possible. Overall a pleasant experience. Highly recommend.
Staff at the Clemson Eye, Halton Green Way location are very thorough, efficient, friendly, and professional. I was so happy to find Dr. Southerland. I was a patient of his at his previous practice and always liked the way he listens to questions/concerns and explains thoroughly.
Our experience with Dr. Smith at Clemson Eye was incredibly unprofessional from start to finish. We first came in for what we thought was a routine eye exam, and during that visit we were told our 3-year-old needed an MRI. Naturally, we had questions later that afternoon, but despite reaching out, we did not receive a response until about a week later. We finally heard back only after I sent an email asking if that would be easier than trying to discuss our concerns over the phone.
After the MRI, we were suddenly informed that she wanted to move forward with a spinal tap. As worried parents, we had more questions. When Dr. Smith finally called, she spoke extremely fast, constantly talked over us, and didn't allow us to finish a single thought. Any time we tried to ask something, she cut us off. The call escalated to the point where she became irritated and even started raising her voice at both my wife and me.
I deal with people in distress and urgency every day in my own job and still manage to stay calm and professional. I expect a doctor especially one caring for a small child to do the same. Instead, we were left feeling dismissed, disrespected, and shocked by her behavior.
We even filed a complaint with Clemson Eye about the situation, but we haven't heard anything back. At this point, it feels like they simply don't care about patient concerns or feedback.
Because of this entire experience, we will not be returning to Clemson Eye or Dr. Smith.
First want to say, the doctor here is great, but the wait time is always too long, especially for young kids. The office smells extremely strong of air freshener, which is very inconsiderate for people who are sensitive. My throat always swells even just walking inside.
The biggest inconvenience is that my son's appointments are ALWAYS rescheduled. Every appointment we have had has been rescheduled to an inconvenient time, and then i have to call and reschedule to an appointment months later.
I took my almost 2-year-old son--who has Down syndrome--to Clemson Eye in Greenville for the second year in a row. It's a very pleasant office and easy to work with. At our first visit, we were never informed of the cautions or increased risks associated with using cyclopentolate in children with Down syndrome though. We didn't even know to ask.
Before our second appointment, we did our own research and learned about these risks on our own. We came prepared with questions and voiced our concerns. It was extremely frustrating to realize that this very important information had never been discussed with us by the clinic, despite them clearly knowing his diagnosis.
When a child has a known condition like Down syndrome, informed consent is essential. Parents should be given the chance to understand the risks vs. benefits--not have decisions made for them without being told the whole story. I expected far better communication, transparency, and patient-centered care from a pediatric eye provider. Unfortunately, that wasn't our experience here the first visit or the second even when we asked. The Doctors response was "we see a lot of Downs kids here and there never seems to be an issue". We understand you are experts in eye care but you are not experts in Down Syndrome nor apparently informed consent. I hope this helps you do better.

Nice staff and doctors but don't go here if you want to be seen on time. I've gone here for about 5 years and always tried to get the earliest possible appointments- and yet, have had an average wait time of 30 min before going back.
Today I waited for 45 min for a 9am appt. It was the last time I'll be going there.
We were referred to Clemson Eye for our 6yo son with severe vision impairment. Dr. Smith is absolutely wonderful with him. She explained his condition and course of treatment thoroughly so that both parents and child understood and left his first visit feeling much needed reassurance. After his second visit his vision has already improved, and he actually likes wearing his glasses. Yesterday I watched my child read tiny letters on a screen from across the room, letters that were just a blur to him mere months ago. You can't put a price on how that makes a mother feel. Clemson Eye is worth the drive, the wait list, whatever it may take you to get an appointment. Bonus: the entire staff could not be more helpful and excellent with children.
Dr. Smith is amazing with all kids. She meets them where they are to do her best to examine her patients and take care of their needs.
