I had a great experience with Dr. Derek Kuhl. He is very knowledgeable and took the time to explain my condition in detail. He went over the procedure step by step and answered all of my questions thoroughly, which made me feel comfortable and confident in his care. The staff at the Retina Center were friendly, polite, and professional. They did an excellent job preparing me for the procedure and clearly explained everything they needed to do. The reception staff was also very accommodating -- I was referred by another ophthalmologist and was pleasantly surprised to get an appointment the same day. The only downside was the waiting time; I waited about an hour before being seen. However, given the quality of care I received, it was well worth it. Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Kuhl and the Retina Center for anyone needing specialized eye care.

My mother left crying. She was going through paperwork to sign for her procedure and a young lady named Riley says "we are on a time crunch" with hand gestures that came off aggressive. First of all my mother paid to be here. Second, if she's there for her eyes what makes her think that she's going to be able to read through the paperwork quickly. The doctor and other staff was amazing. It's just sad that one employee can make the rest business look bad.

Extremely disappointed with the unprofessional and condescending behavior of the front desk staff. I received a random call telling me to come in immediately for a "horse shoe tear surgery," without explaining what the procedure was, how long it would take, or what the implications were. When I said that coming in on such short notice would mean missing work and having my 3-year-old waiting in the car, their response was simply, "Just bring him in." This is a small, compact clinic clearly not a safe or reasonable suggestion. On top of that, they said I'd need to wait an hour for insurance verification (Blue Cross PPO Anthem) and were rude when I asked questions and given not a single answer about any of the questions. Completely unprofessional experience. I do not recommend this office.

This place is terrible. Took over 30 minutes just standing in line for check in. The front staff just blamed the patients for their problems. Staff didn't care they are the problem. Fix your process don't blame these old people. Take ownership. Also we had to wear a mask on 2026.... Who is still doing this? Don't come here

Was a patient for about 10 years and when I had my first major bleed and went blind Dr Kuhl was very unprofessional and rude refused to see me at the ER. My wife had to beg him to see me. I felt it was very unprofessional and disappointing after being a loyal patient. That being said, it was always hard to get an appointment in a reasonable amount of time and most of the time they are very rude about taking payments. If you have bad retina or eye problems, I would recomend going to Houston. Which is what I have since done and feel better taken care off with my delicate situation. .

I take my mother here. Dr Kuhl is very good as well as the techs that assist the Dr. The staff at the front desk are not friendly in person or over the phone. The main reason for the low rating is the tech that takes pictures of her eyes is not very good and is very rude and just not a nice person. Would rather go somewhere else but really don't have a choice due to insurance.

Worst experience. I take my mom to Houston for WMD treatment. She's been going for years now. We switched to Bryan to try to make it easier and it was a huge mistake. They make her walk 100 yards to a treatment room past about 20 doors. She's 81 and I fail to see why the room should be at the far end of the building. Also the woman at the front desk is the rudest office staff I've experienced in my life. She's a mask nazi and she loves to yell at patients about it. She should take a biology class bc masks don't work. Finally they made us come for a consultation first (one appointment). Then they treat left eye next week (appointment 2). Finally right eye next week (appointment 3). 3 appointments a month? With a battle axe screaming at us every time? next month only 2 appointments (no consult). So we go twice a month. Dr Benz has been treating both eyes in one day for literally years in houston. One visit per month! And his staff is nice and respectful. When the Medicare bill comes guess who double and triple dips??? Retina specialists! They are charging you out the wazzoo and being rude the whole time? And they argued (again) that it's for our own safety and we could have a reaction, etc. and that's why 2 times a month is necessary. No thank you. We will drive an hour each way (only one time a month though) to houston to see a better Dr with better staff. Glad I'm able to help my mom have this choice!

Mask? I'd worn a gorilla suit if it was required to be seen. My eye doctor diagnosed me with a torn retina on Christmas Eve evening. He immediately contacted Dr. Kuhl who had me come to his office early Thursday morning and l had surgery about 6:30pm that evening. All his staff was very friendly and positive, and Dr. Kuhl more than lived up to his name, he was outgoing, funny, and exuded a confidence that was both comforting and reassuring. Surgery went well with a good prognosis. Dr. Kuhl is definitely COOL!
