East River Eye Care, Dr. Wade O.D.

First of all, we have been going to see Dr. Wade for years. We like him as a doctor. His staff is the problem. The front desk receptionist has never been particularly friendly, nor has she been motivated, but today's visit was terrible. My husband suffered an eye injury yesterday. We called all morning to get an appointment, but then again she never answers the phone. My husband decided to just go over there. He went in, sat in the dark of the office because the doors were open but no staff. Finally, someone comes in, says she is running late, and then says he couldn't be seen because our insurance doesn't cover medical and we would have to pay out of pocket. I called our insurance, and they confirmed that they do cover medical (eye injuries, etc.) Our area lacks in qualified doctors as it is. But, when you are a good doctor and hire lazy, rude, inept and incompetent staff, you might as well close the doors. We will never go back there again unless he hires professional people!

Dr. Wade and his staff lied to me regarding the insurance they accept. They said there was a glitch and they had been accidentally removed from Davis Insurance. That I could pay up front and get reimbursed. That was a lie according to BCBS and Davis insurance. They had been removed from Davis insurance since May 2023. I saw them in Sept 2024. When I went to the office Dr. Wade agreed to pay me back $70 the amount the insurance company would not reimburse me. I went by his office today and he said he changed his mind. It's the principle of the matter. I have every intention of filing fraud charges and requesting that he be audited.

I usually don't give terrible reviews. But this place is ridiculous. Eye exam? Eh, it was alright (not the most friendly, but ok) exam and contact fitting...$150. They had zero trial contacts. Still had to pay the $150. "We will call you when they come in, should be a week or two." OK no problem. We are now sitting at a month and no trial pair or prescription!!! NO ONE WILL ANSWER THE PHONE! .....very disappointed!

The lady at the front desk was very rude and more or less called me a liar this is on 8/17/2023 I had in my phone my appointment was at 9:30 the sign on the door says open at 9 am when I arrived the door was locked I went in the store ask at the vision center and was told this has happened to more than me well when I went in when she opened someone had put a note under door stating a pt said her appointment was at 9:30 she open the door to the vision center and rudely and loudly yelled at them for putting the note under the door and said the pt is a liar I don't make appointments before 10 am then turned to me and said are you Kathy so I had not signed in so I know I'm the one she called a liar I filled out the papers but thought I better just get up and leave now if I stay any longer I'm already fuming they will have to call the police on me I know it's hard to get people to work but she is a rude mean person and should not have a job working with people. She needs fired

Edit 10/30: Finally went in person and booked an appointment, so I'm changing my review. Appointment was quick, easy, and throughout. I couldn't tell you if anyone in the office does any work. I have called and called for two weeks to make an appointment, but no one answers the phone. I'm not convinced they're even in business.

I had a retinal bleed, Dr. Wade found it, before I left he had an appointment scheduled for me with a Retina Specialist. Great doctor and awesome staff.

Waited 3 weeks for my appointment. They cancelled me on the day of my appointment. When I called back to reschedule, as they asked me to do.... No one answered the phone. I left a message but still haven't received a call back. I'll be going else where. Don't waste your time like I did.

My mother was a new patient who saw Dr. Wade last month, she said it was the most thorough eye exam she has ever had and was so impressed with both the doctor and the staff. Thank you for your great service!
